Several children and adults won prizes at the annual Santa’s Workshop at Athens Community Hall on Saturday.

Boys who won prizes at the event include Caden Frandsen of Athens, classic train set; Riley Ford of Athens, remote control police truck and Jackson Woller of Athens, fire fighter actions.

Girls who won prizes consist of Hazel Bloch of Athens, Frozen package; Lyla King of Edgar, baby doll starter seta nd Rebekah Anderson of Athens, FurReal stuffed animal.

Infants who won prizes include Jade Punke of Athens, Mickey and Minnie Mouse and a Christmas story book; Corbyn Osimiz of Athens, Disney wooden classic toy set and Elianna Brubacher of Edgar, large stuffed dog.

Adults who won prizes consist of Katie Wagner of Athens, glass hurricane light; Morris McCallistor of Rothschild, baking kit and Bart Schreiber of Athens, snowman collection.

Christmas concerts

Athens Elementary School’s Christmas concert is at 1 p.m. this Friday, Dec. 13. The Athens middle and high school choir and band concert is at 2 p.m. this Sunday, Dec. 17, in the high school gym.

Trinity Lutheran School’s Christmas concert will be at 9 a.m. on Sunday, Dec. 22.

Weekly knitting

Adults can practice their knitting, crocheting and more on a weekly basis with new sessions of Needle Arts afternoons from 1-4 p.m. each Tuesday until Dec. 31 at the Marathon County Public Library’s Athens Branch, located at 221 Caroline Street.

Advent meal

A Wednesday Advent Meal will be served in Trinity Lutheran Church basement in Athens from 5-6:30 p.m. on Dec. 18.

There is a free will offering to help cover the meal expenses and to help Trinity’s youth to raise funds for the 2020 Youth Mission Trip to Benton Harbor, Mich. The Dec. 18 meal includes cheesy potato and chili soup. All meals includes grilled cheese sandwiches, salad, beverage and dessert.

Birth

A son, Silas Samuel, was born on Oct. 7, 2019, to Tommy and Shannon Ploeckelman of Athens.

The baby weighed seven pounds, three ounces and was 19.5 inches long. He joins the following siblings: Sister Madelynn, 9; brother Bennett, 6; brother Titus, 4 and sister Faith, 2. Grandparents are James and Joan Healy of Athens and Dale and Nancy Ploeckelman of Abbotsford.

Senior Citizens

The Senior Citizens card group met on Dec. 5 for weekly card playing at the Athens Area Fire and Ambulance Hall.

Three games of Sheepshead were played. David Perrodin won the first game and Ray Schemenauer took second place. Rosemarie Bergman won the second game and Bitsy Ewan placed second. Pat Frank won the third game and Ceil Frank took second place. Bernice Passehl received low score.

Card playing will resume at 1 p.m. on Thursday, Dec. 12, at the Athens Area Fire and Ambulance Hall.

Holiday card making

Everyone is invited to make their own handmade holiday cards from this Monday, Dec. 16, through Friday, Dec. 20, at the Marathon County Public Library’s Athens Branch, located at 221 Caroline St.

People are welcome to drop by the library any time it’s open throughout next week to participate. All supplies are provided. Those wanting more information on this event can call the Athens Library at 715257-7292.

Book Club

People are welcome to stop by the Marathon County Branch Athens Library to take part in a lively discussion on the classic novel, “The Four Agreements.”
