The Senior Citizens card group met on Nov. 14 for weekly card playing at the Athens Area Fire and Ambulance Hall.
Two games of Sheepshead were played. David Perrodin won the first game and Alvira Henrichs took second place. Sally Whaples won the second game and Butch Boris placed second. Pat Frank received low score.
The Senior Citizens card group will next meet on Thursday, Nov. 21, at 1 p.m. in the Athens Area fire and Ambulance Hall.
Weekly knitting
Adults can practice their knitting, crocheting and more on a weekly basis with new sessions of Needle Arts afternoons from 1-4 p.m. each Tuesday until Dec. 31 at the Marathon County Public Library’s Athens Branch, located at 221 Caroline Street.
500 Club
The 500 Club met at Athenian Living, with Agnes Gianoli as hostess, on Nov. 13.
Cherry yeast coffee cake and coffee were served before playing cards. Agnes Gianoli won the first game and Linda Adams took second place. Carol Westphal won the special prize. The club will meet next on Wednesday, Nov. 27, at 1:30 p.m. at the home of Alvira Henrichs.
Family pajama party
Young children and their families can hear relaxing stories, music and get ready for bedtime with a special Family Pajama Story Time from 7-7:30 p.m. on Thursday, Nov. 21, at the Marathon County Public Library’s Athens Branch, located at 221 Caroline Street.
Attendees can wear their pajamas, bring their blankets and their favorite stuffed animal, too. This event is free and people can call the library at 715-257-7292 for more information.
Knit/crochet mittens
Adults and teens can learn how to knit or crochet their own pair of mittens during a three-week event that begins on Dec. 3 from 1-4 p.m., at the Marathon County Public Library’s Athens Branch, located at 221 Caroline St.
Additional sessions will be held on Dec. 10 and 17. People seeking more information on the event should call the Athens library at 715-257-7292.
Pumpkin pie craft
One of the best treats of autumn is a nice big slice of pumpkin pie. Children can make their own non-edible craft version during a special craft event from 10:30-11:30 a.m. on Tuesday, Nov. 26, at the Marathon County Public Library’s Athens Branch, located at 221 Caroline St.
This event is free with all supplies provided. People can call the Athens library at 715257-7292 for more information.
Deer hide collection
The Athens Lions Club is collecting deer hides again during the nine-day gun deer hunting season.
Hunters can drop off their deer hides at Athens Lion Chad Pecher’s house, located at 1116 CTH A in rural Athens.
Anyone with questions on the deer hide collection should call Pecher at 715-432-7919.
Santa’s Workshop
Santa and Mrs. Claus are coming the Athens Community Hall from 9 a.m. until 3 p.m. on Saturday, Dec. 7.
Santa invites parents and their children to shop at Santa’s Workshop, where gifts will be available for all ages to pruchase with free gift wrapping, inside the Athens Community Hall. The event will also feature a children’s craft table, lunch available for purchase and Photos by Sara.
Advent meals
Wednesday Advent Meals will be served in Trinity Lutheran Church basement in Athens from 5-6:30 p.m. on Dec. 4, 11 and 18.
There is a free will offering to help cover the meal expenses and to help Trinity’s youth to raise funds for the 2020 Youth Mission Trip to Benton Harbor, Mich.
The Dec. 4 Advent Meal consists of cheesy broccoli and chili soup. The Dec. 11 menu is chicken dumpling and chili soup and the Dec. 18 meal includes cheesy potato and chili soup. All meals includes grilled cheese sandwiches, salad, beverage and dessert.
