Homecoming is time for everyone to get excited

“Whether you’re a proud alum, a parent or a community member, we want you to be part of the excitement!” Those words from Grace Grunseth are about none other than Cornell’s Homecoming celebration, which begins Friday, Sept. 12, with the crowning of the king and queen, during Chief Time, at 12:30 p.m. After that, there’s a powderpuff football game, with the public encouraged to attend, Sunday, Sept. 14, at 7 p.m. Throughout the week, there will be dress-up days of fake an injury, celebrity and fairytale characters, as well as a volleyball vs. football players game, and staff vs. the winners of that game. Although there’s no window decorating, each class is creating their own game, as well as class skits, for the pep rally Friday, Sept. 19, at 1 p.m. A parade will follow, with the newly selected grand marshal. The week culminates with the big football game, as the Chiefs face Siren. Grunseth asks business owners and private citizens to fill a role, in support of the students, by cheering in the stands, decorating their houses in school colors and coming to the public events. “It’s time to celebrate the heart of the town and show our students what community spirit looks like,” said Grunseth.
