For many years, Woodside Drive has been known as just that – drive. Recently, however, the Cornell City Council was made aware by the county’s 911 GIS coordinator, that there were three designations for that right-of- way.

“It was platted originally as a street, then somewhere along the line, it was described as a road,” said city administrator Dave DeJongh, at a meeting July 1.

DeJongh can recall that a former mayor liked drive better that street or road, so she began calling the right-ofway that and it stuck. Since Woodside is listed as drive on signs and documents, the council agreed on Resolution 24-9, to formally determine the road type of Woodside right-of-way to be drive.

Members also approved Ordinance 24-4, making updates to Chapter 2 of the city ordinance book, as “housekeeping” issues that needed to be addressed.

For example, instead of getting bonds for different positions, it was decided to carry a $100,000 crime and dishonesty policy, which covers all employees. The municipal court judge is now a four-year term, which was changed by state statute and some language was changed to the Board of Review, also per the state.

“That’s pretty much to mostly comply with state statutes,” said DeJongh.
