While they are still working on the process of letting parents know there is help available in the form of the Angel Fund at Lake Holcombe School, there is plenty of money to cover delinquent lunch accounts, after a $3,000 donation by the Hooked on Lake Holcombe Committee Nov. 2. Parents who need help with meal accounts, can contact the school to receive help from the Angel Fund. Sometimes, parents can’t afford to send a lunch to school with their children or put money in their meal accounts. Despite the lack of funds in those cases, no child will go hungry at Lake Holcombe School, regardless of the ability to pay.

“They will be fed,” said district accountant Lisa Spletter.

But, thanks to the Angel Fund, which was created at the school on an idea of the local Lions club, money is anonymously deposited into delinquent or low accounts. To help with that, $3,000 was given to the school Nov. 2, for the Angel Fund, by the Hooked on Lake Holcombe organization.

The Hooked on Lake Holcombe Committee stems from the Holcombe United Methodist Church, where money is raised from family-friendly community events. That money is then designated to needs in the Holcombe community, such as the Angel Fund.

“We decide, based on a need brought to our attention, whether by a committee member, or another person or organization,” said committee co-chair Kate Rihn.

In addition to the Angel Fund, Hooked on Lake Holcombe proceeds have been used for the local Samaritan Fund and to help pave the church’s parking lot. The next event will be July 3, 2024, but members have not decided what the proceeds will go toward.

That’s why they need the public’s help to give ideas of fundraisers in progress or of needs in the community. If anyone has a suggestion for the committee, they can email hookedonlakeholcombe@gmail.com.

“Our events are run solely by volunteer efforts,” said Rihn.
