Spectators can pick their favorite at annual car show

By Julia Wolf

The Lake Holcombe Lions Club’s annual car show is back, and the public is invited to stop by and admire the cars, trucks and motorcycles on display.

The event will take place Sunday, Sept. 11, from 9 a.m. until 2 p.m., at the Lake Holcombe Lions pavilion (Staudacher Field). The event is free to spectators.

The car show is open to all years and makes of cars, trucks and cycles.

“Some come from quite a ways,” said Bryan “TAZZ” Olichwier, car show organizer.

Spectators get to vote on their favorites for the People’s Choice Award, while the Lions select the Lion’s Choice Award winner.

“Kids, they get to vote, because there is a Kid’s Choice Award,” said Olichwier.

The top 10 vehicles and top two motorcycles will also get awards. Drawings and awards will begin at 1:30 p.m.

‘I’m hoping to have some variety this year,” said Olichwier, adding he reached out to people with different types of vehicles.

Those who wish to show a vehicle can do so for a small fee, with registration starting at 8 a.m.

Raffles will also take place during the event and a charcoal chicken dinner will be available for purchase, from 10 a.m. until gone, dine-in or carry-out.

“That’s a big draw,” said Olichwier. He says the swap meet, held in conjunction with the car show, contains a wide variety of items, from different vendors. Some examples of items people can expect at the swap meet, are trinkets and car parts.

The Fisk Truck Museum will also be open from 9 a.m. until 2 p.m., which is just down the road from the pavilion.

“It’s really neat, because they’ve got a lot of the antique dump trucks and really old stuff that was used back in the day,” said Olichwier.
