It’s no small feat to be recognized by an NFL team, but that’s what happened Oct. 18, when Cadott football head coach Jeff Goettl, received word he was named as the Green Bay Packers High School Coach of the Week.

“It was a heck of a shock to get the news yesterday,” said Goettl. “It means everything.”

The Packers Coach of the Week program supports football outreach efforts, by not only giving high school coaches recognition – regardless of the team’s on-field record – but also receive $1,000 for their football program. Coaches are also highlighted on Gameday Programs and are the Packers’ guest against the Minnesota Vikings Jan. 2.

Now in his fourth year as the Hornets head coach, Goettl is a Cadott native himself, graduating in 1993, after playing football under then coach Ed Lenard. Goettl then began his own coaching career at the youth level until 2013, when he became the offensive coordinator for the Cadott varsity team.

Goettl took over as head coach of the team in 2018, and has seen success, leading his Hornets to their first playoff appearance in 17 years. Off the field, Goettl is a territory sales representative for Headwater Wholesale.

For Goettl, the Coach of the Week Award is a reflection of all the time and effort, the coaching staff and players put into the program.

“We work so hard in the offseason and all year round,” he said, “and to be able to get recognized like that, especially being a big Packers and Badgers fan, it hits the heart pretty hard.”
