CABA calls for nominations for 2021 community awards

By Julia Wolf

The Cornell Area Betterment Association (CABA) once again invites community members to take the time to say thank you to those who make a difference.

Nominations are now open for the annual community awards, with the categories of Community Leader of the Year, Volunteer of the Year, Business of the Year, Civic Organization of the Year, Legacy Award and New Venture of the Year.

“This is your chance to highlight someone who makes a difference in the community,” said Ginna Young, CABA member.

Nominees should live, work or make a signifi cant impact, in the Cornell or Holcombe area. They can not currently be an announced candidate for public office or running for reelection.

A community leader is someone who has shown leadership outside of their vocation, serving as a role model and has raised the standards of social responsibility. Volunteer of the Year will be awarded to someone who distinguishes themselves through volunteerism and have contributed their talents in helping others, without personal gain or monetary compensation.

The Legacy Award recognizes someone who has made an impact on the community over many years, and may be awarded posthumously.

A business or individual can be recognized with the New Venture Award, for the impact they have made over the past two years through new programs, expansions, services or events held in the Cornell area.

A civic organization, a non-governmental group composed mostly of volunteers, which demonstrates involvement in the community, will be eligible for recognition as the Civic Organization of the Year.

The Business of the Year will go to a business that is based in the Cornell area or makes a significant impact in the area, which demonstrates involvement in the community.

Members of CABA will use the criteria to select the winners, who will receive recognition and a plaque.

“Many times, behind-the-scenes work goes unnoticed and unrecognized, and with these awards, we want to change that,” said Young.

Online or printable nomination forms, along with more information on the selection criteria and past winners, are available at sites.google.com/site/cornellareabetterment/ home?authuser=0, then click community awards under the events tab. Paper forms are also available to pick up at the Courier Sentinel office in Cornell.

Nomination forms are due by Friday, Oct. 15, and can be turned in by mail to CABA, P.O. Box 602, Cornell, WI, 54732, or dropped off at the Courier Sentinel office.

The winners will be announced Monday, Oct. 25, on the CABA Facebook page and website.
