The Bird Nest fights cancer with an annual fundraiser

By Julia Wolf

The Bird Nest, in Holcombe, is holding its second annual fundraiser to fight cancer, Friday and Saturday, Oct. 1 and 2. People can stop in by the shop’s 263 Avenue location, between 9 a.m. and 7 p.m those days.

Proceeds from the event will go to Women With Courage.

Courtney Anders, co-owner of The Bird Nest with her mother, says the fundraiser is a great way for people to help them help the community. She says helping those fighting cancer is a cause close to her heart.

“I’ve had cancer twice and a lot of people in this area helped me, and now I feel like it’s my turn, and my mom’s turn, to help give back to them people,” said Anders.

There is no ticketing to join the event. People can just show up and purchase chances to win basket raffles, enter to win giveaways, try samples of dips, coffee and wine, or participate in other fun things going on in the store.

As an extra incentive, the first 25 people, both days, who spend $25 or more, have the chance to win a $100 gift card from The Bird Nest.

“They’ll pick a box,” said Anders, which contain gifts or gift certificates. “In one of them, there will be a $100 gift certificate for the store.”

She says a lot of area businesses have already helped out by giving donations, to help The Bird Nest make the biggest impact possible.

Anders says there will also be a craft and vendor show, and a brat stand held to increase

funds raised for the cause.

“All the proceeds from the brat stand are going straight into the funds for this,” said Anders, adding the vendor fees will also go to Women With Courage.

For questions, to donate, or join the craft and vendor show, people can contact the store, at 715-517-1163.
