Community invited to join in on homecoming events

By Julia Wolf

Homecoming is a great time to show school spirit, and not just for students. Community members are invited to take part in a number of the festivities throughout the weeks for each school district.

Cadott’s homecoming week begins Monday, Sept. 27. A pep band concert to get everyone in the school spirit will take place in the high school parking lot at 7:30 p.m., that day.

There will also be a parade held to showcase the celebration, Friday, Oct. 1, at 2:30 p.m. The parade will start in the high school parking lot and turn west onto Mill Street, before going south down Main Street. Elementary students in the parade will only walk down the Mill Street portion of the route.

The varsity football team will face Glenwood City at home, beginning at 7 p.m., to round out homecoming week.

Cornell kicks off their homecoming week Sunday, Sept. 19, at noon, with a homecoming color dash. It is free for people to participate in the dash, which begins and ends in the high school parking lot, and winds through town. Registration for the event is at 11:30 a.m.

An alumni volleyball game is in the works for Monday, Sept. 20, at 6:30 p.m., for any Cornell alumni. Those interested in participating in the game should contact Andrea Hakes, at 715-861-6967, in the high school office, or email her at ahakes@cornell.k12.wi.us.

Crowning of the king and queen will follow the games.

Hakes says, if not enough alumni sign up, the winner of a volleyball players vs. football players game held earlier in the week, will face off against school staff.

There is a home varsity volleyball game against Flambeau Thursday, at 7:15 p.m., in the high school.

The school’s pep rally will take place Friday, Sept. 24, at 2:15 p.m.

“We’re having our classes do skits, like we have done in the past,” said Hakes.

At 3 p.m. that day, the homecoming parade will go down Main Street.

The community is then invited to watch and cheer during the powderpuff football game, on the football field, at 4 p.m.

At 5 p.m., a tailgate party will take place, with free food provided by the Spirit Club. The varsity football game against Birchwood-Winter will follow at 7 p.m.

There will also be a homecoming decorating contest, hosted by the Spirit Club, during the week.

Lake Holcombe also invites the community to join them in celebrating school spirit. The events kick off Sunday, Sept. 19, from 6-8 p.m., with a bonfire behind the softball field.

A parade is scheduled for Thursday, Sept. 23, at 1:30 p.m. The route starts behind the school, and will go past the post office and cafe, before turning to go past the town hall and back to the school.

A pep assembly immediately follows the parade.

The big game takes place Thursday night, with the varsity football team going head-to-head with Athens, beginning at 7 p.m.
