School events welcome kids back to the classroom

As summer comes to a close, area school districts have open houses in the works, to gear up students and their families for the 2021-22 school year.
There will be an open house at the Cadott Elementary School, Wednesday, Sept. 1, from 10 a.m. until 6 p.m.
“We’re excited to have families coming back to school,” said Terri Goettl, elementary school principal.
Students grades 4K through six and their families, will have the chance to meet their teacher and see their classroom. There will also be a bus at the school, so youth who never rode a bus before can check it out.
“It’s mostly a way to see what their students are going to be learning in their classroom, just get familiar with the school again,” said Goettl.
Picture day will also take place in the gym, during the open house. By having picture day at the same time, parents will have the chance to help students get ready for the pictures and make sure they look nice.
Agencies, organizations and community clubs will also have tables set up.
“It’s a way for families to make some community connections,” said Goettl.
Groups who would like a table at the event, can register at https://www.smore.com/tzsgc.
Cornell’s open house is scheduled for Monday, Aug. 23, in the Cornell Elementary School gym and Lake Holcombe’s is set for Tuesday, Aug. 31, at the school, for families to see the schools and meet the teachers.
Lake Holcombe will also have food, music and a photo booth to welcome everyone back for the year, during the open house.
There will be a resource fair during the open houses, where families with school-aged children can learn about services and goods offered by community partners.
Jenny Blaisdell, resource fair organizer, says there will be a BINGO-style card for families to take to the booths at the resource fair. Each booth will stamp the card, which can be turned in for a chance at winning a family fun basket, valued at over $50.
“Families can expect to find a one-stop-shop to check off loads of items on the fall to-do list,” said Blaisdell.
In the past, Blaisdell says they have had booths from Pom-Poms/Flag Football, sign-up for the After-School program, as well as resources for home repairs, personal finance, parenting, marriage, school supplies and recreation ideas.
“Many of our partners like to give away fun items, so no one will go away empty-handed,” said Blaisdell.
Free childcare is offered during the open houses.
“We have some new partners this year, and we can’t wait to see families again,” said Blaisdell.
Businesses and organizations who would like to take part in the resource fairs, can contact Blaisdell for an application, at 715-861-8011 or jblaisdell@cornell.k12.wi.us.
