Cadott students will have more extra-curricular options, starting next year, after the Cadott School Board approved additional offerings, during a regular meeting June 14.

A Science Olympiad and Gaming Club were added, as part of a proposal.

Board member Donna Albarado asked if they already have advisers found for the activities. District administrator Jenny Starck says they have people in mind, but need to confirm them.

There is a $1,240 annual stipend for the person running the program.

“The Gaming Club has two seasons, so there’s a fall and a winter season,” said Starck. “So from a student standpoint, if they are in other things, they could participate in one and not the other,” The WIAA renewal agreement for the 2021-22 school year, was also approved during the meeting.

Members also accepted a CPR equipment donation from Art and Pat Oswald.

“They actually dropped off and donated a bunch of CPR mannequins for us to use, both within our training for our district staff, as well as in health classes,” said Stark.

The board also accepted sponsor donations from T& J Concrete and From the Ground Up/Aquapoint Irrigation for gym scoreboards, which include space for statistics.

A donation from Jon Bowe to extend the football announcer stand 10 feet, was also accepted.

Kyle Rothbauer, Thirteenth Strong, gave an update on how the inaugural year of the strength and conditioning program went.

“The goal was really to try to come up with a program that could work for all athletes,” said Starck.

Rothbauer says one thing they did, which is different than many schools, is they opened up the program for all middle and high school students. He says, from September through February, they had 130 scheduled workouts with teams during their sports season.

“I thought that that was really, really cool,” said Rothbauer.

He also says they offered an hour before school, Monday through Friday, for middle and high school students to come in, and lift or work on their speed, and agility.

Rothbauer says the weight room hit its peak usage during the six-week gap between the end of winter sports, and the start of spring sports.

“During that time, we had a formal after-school program and our attendance was very high,” said Rothbauer.

He says they had 25 or more athletes every single night, for all six weeks, with a record of 40 in attendance.

He says the summer strength and conditioning program is now underway, but is off to a slow start with sports still in session.

Rothbauer says they are looking to be flexible with how they can meet the needs of students and says the team is willing to work with coaches for scheduling.

Becca Blanchette, board member, says she thinks some of the younger athletes are intimidated with lifting and suggested the Thirteenth Strong team work with coaches, to find a time to attend sports practices to explain the program.

Rothbauer says coaches have scheduled middle school only workouts before and that they would be more than happy to continue that.

Board members also heard reports on grades, student behavior and budgets.

Members approved the resignation of Kaitlyn Bero, English teacher.

It has been an honor working with this district and I appreciate the numerous opportunities it has given me over the years, wrote Bero.

The board also accepted the resignation of custodial staff Julie Mattieson.

Thank you for the opportunity to work at the Cadott High School, wrote Mattieson. Everyone has been so kind and understanding. I really enjoyed working with everyone and especially the kids.

The resignation of Terra Larsen, Drama Club, was also accepted.

Following a closed session, the board members approved contracts for the principals and the director of special education.
