God’s treasure is priceless

By Ginna Young

It’s time to hunt for treasure, but not the kind made of jewels and gold. During this year’s Vacation Bible School (VBS), kids can learn that they are God’s priceless treasure.

“Last year, we were blessed to be able to provide an outdoor drive-in movie theater experience, due to the pandemic,” said coordinator Jenny Blaisdell, “but this year, should look very similar to previous years.”

Taking place at the Cornell Elementary School, VBS will be in session Monday through Friday, June 21-25, with a free breakfast for 18 and under, at 8:30 a.m. each day. Activities and games run from 9 a.m. to noon, with a free lunch at noon, daily.

“I love the stations at VBS, we always have singing and dancing in the gym to get started each morning,” said Blaisdell.

Once each day begins, the crews head to games on the playground, crafts in the art room, Bible adventures in the music room and KidVid Cinema in the library. Preschool students have their own schedule.

Parents are encouraged to pre-register their kids, but walk-ins are welcome. Paper forms are available at KJ’s Fresh Market and local churches, or by calling 715-2020374.

In addition to those attending the event, volunteers are needed to make the week a success (with a quick consent to background check). Blaisdell says cookies and Kool-Aid are also needed, for the week’s snacks and a picnic the last day.

Donations can be dropped off at the elementary school, Friday afternoon, June 18, between 2 and 6 p.m., at the E1 entrance on Fifth Street.

Volunteers will also collect items for the local food pantry and troops, and students will write letters to go with WWIB Wisconsin military care packages and the overseas mission this year, Operation Kid-to-Kid. Kid-to-Kid provides specially treated mosquito nets to reduce the effects of malaria.

Families are also welcome to make an offering to help with the cost of VBS.

“If kids are already walking with Jesus, this is an incredible boost to their daily adventure with Him,” said Blaisdell, “and if they are new to faith, VBS is a wildly fun first step on that journey.”
