Lake Holcombe needs to move high school to virtual

Based on attendance of Lake Holcombe’s High School students, grades nine through 12 will need to shift to fullyremote/ virtual learning until at least Nov. 20. This is planned to be only a temporary move, because of circumstances surrounding the COVID-19 pandemic. “The decision to move to fully-remote/virtual learning… is not what we wanted to do,” said superintendent Kurt Lindau. “However, after a review of last week’s high school attendance data, a review of those students who have been affected by positive cases and quarantines, it was felt that this was the best option at this time.”

The last in-person day for high school students was Nov. 9, with virtual learning beginning Nov. 11. During the time off for Thanksgiving break, community and student health, and staffing will be reassessed, with a tentative return to inperson learning Nov. 30, for the freshman through senior classes.

With the shift to virtual, the school building will be closed to high school students, unless appointments are made for specific reasons. Extra-curricular activities will also be suspended for the high school grades.

Teachers will instruct remotely from their classrooms and school meals can be picked up at the school.

In order to bring in-person settings back, Lindau asks that families, staff and the community utilize the upcoming days to help curb the spread of COVID-19.

“We know that in-person learning is best for students,” said Lindau.
