To right, Chili area veteran ….

To right, Chili area veteran Duaine Schwieso created a display on his barn honoring his family’s service. There are five stars for the five Schwieso brothers who served in the U.S. military: Duaine, Terry, Jack, Jim and Bruce. The gold star is for Jack, who passed away due to health issues from being exposed to Agent Orange in Vietnam.
A Gold Star family can display a Gold Star Service Flag for service members who were killed or died as a result of serving in the Armed Forces from causes other than dishonorable. The mission of America’s Gold Star Family recognition is to provide honor, hope and healing to those grieving any military loss through active duty service in the U.S. Armed Forces. The Federal Charter was granted June 4, 1928, and is in the Archives of Congress.
