Audrey Benson, 21, of Marshfield, pled guilty and was sentenced on May 3 in Marathon County Circuit Court for a felony charge of hiding a corpse in connection to the Dec. 29, 2020, shooting death of Christian Schauer. Benson will serve four years in prison and three years of extended supervision. Additional charges of resisting or obstructing an officer were dismissed in court. Benson was given credit for already serving one year and just over two months in the Marathon County Jail.

She is the first person sen­tenced in connection to Schauer’s death. Jared Carl of Stratford is scheduled to be sentenced on Monday, July 25, for a felony charge of first-degree intentional homicide.

His father, Shawn Carl of Stratford, is scheduled to have a jury trial begin on Monday, Feb. 6, 2023, for a felony charge of harboring or aiding a felon and obstructing an officer. A final pretrial conference for Shawn Carl is scheduled on Tuesday, Dec. 20.

Steven Crandall of Wisconsin Rapids is scheduled to have a pre-trial conference on Thursday, July 14, and a preliminary hearing on Tuesday, July 26, for a felony charge of first-degree intentional homicide as a party to a crime.
