SC Swiderski LLC in Mosinee plans to provide much needed single-family housing, duplexes and apartments to the village of Athens in the future.

The company has announced it plans to buy 7.5 acres of land in the village on Caroline Street, across from Athenian Living, that will include 46 units of various housing options for residents. A proposed public street to be constructed off Caroline Street would include four single-family homes for people to purchase on the north side of the street and four duplexes for residents to rent on the south side.

Apartment buildings will be constructed to the south of the duplexes with one, two and three bedrooms for people to rent. Some of the apartments will have attached garages and some will have unattached garages.

“There will be many different housing options for people,” said Jacqui McElroy, director of business development at SC Swiderski in Mosinee. “We plan to complete our planning this spring and then get approvals from the village. The project would be constructed in 2023.” Lisa Czech, Athens village clerk, said SC Swiderski is under contract to purchase land from Athenian Living. McElroy said SC Swiderski plans to close on the sale of the land in September of 2022. McElroy said SC Swiderski will have a property manager on the Athens site who will travel back-andforth to its sites also located in Marathon and Medford.

Randy Decker, president of the Athens Area Development Corporation, said additional housing options for people is definitely welcome in the village of Athens.

“There is definitely a shortage of places to live in Athens so this is a big deal for Athens,” Decker said. “ It’s nice to see a company like SC Swiderski invest in small towns. SC Swiderski sees what the village needs and it is bettering the Athens area, along with providing a tax base to spur more development in the future.”
