Frome won’t run again for Spencer president

The village of Spencer will apparently be in need of a new president this spring as incumbent Pauline Frome has decided not to seek a new term.

Frome recently submitted a notice of non-candidacy, meaning she does not intend to run for another 2-year term as the village leader in the April 6, 2021 election. That leaves the door open for other village residents to file paperwork by the Jan. 5 deadline to have their names on the spring ballot for the job.

Current Village Board member Harry Toufar has already submitted paperwork to run for the president’s position. Any other candidate must file a notice of candidacy and other paperwork by Jan. 5.

Frome has been Spencer’s president since July 2014, when she was appointed to the job after Jim Kilty resigned. She was then elected to the seat in 2015, 2017 and 2019.

Incumbent office-holders who do not plan to run for re-election are encouraged to submit non-candidacy declarations. For this next election, the deadline for noncandidacy statements was last week.

Frome’s village president seat is up for a new term this spring, as are the seats of village trustees Tom Schafer, Bill Hoes and Jeremy Carolfi. None of them has yet filed paperwork for new terms, nor have any new candidates.

Loyal will be looking for a new city Council member this spring, as well. Ward 1 Council member Betty Gluch-Voss has filed a non-candidacy statement and will not run again. Others up for new terms in Loyal this spring are Mayor Carmen Englebretson and Council members Curtisss Lindner (Ward 1) and Kris Schultz and Greg Brock (Ward 2).
