Grant will put computers in 2 Colby/Abby squads
The Colby/Abbotsford Police Department will install two more in-squad computer systems thanks to a $10,000 grant. Officer Jason Bauer wrote the grant application for the department.
Police chief Ron Gosse reported the good news to the police commission Monday night, but said there was a catch. The new computers, with software and installation, will cost about $15,000. Gosse said he had designated money in the metal plate fund for squad computers in the past and asked the commission to approve spending $5,000 from that fund to complete the project.
The department has one in-squad computer it purchased with a grant from Marathon County. The department has a total of five squads.
Other business
Gosse reported he recently had a discussion with the police chief in Saukville, a community just completing a new police building. He said the communty has a population of 4,323 but built a 20,000 square foot station including a 12-car garage.
An agreement between the two cities reached in June caps police department space at 8,500 square feet.
“Maybe we should look at that,” said Abbotsford Ald. Lori Voss.
Gosse said he will have a tentative budget for the commission to review at its September meeting.
