Spencerama is all about family and friends

When Deb Schafer began envisioning a new and improved Spencerama Days celebration more than three years ago, she wanted it to be focused on drawing families and friends together for a good time. Now about to begin its third 3-day run on June 7-9, that’s just what the community festival has turned out to be.
The Spencerama Days that unfolds this weekend will be the third version of the resurrection of a Spencer festival that was defunct from 2001-16. Schafer and other community leaders decided the village needed a weekend to gather together, so they set out to build the festival back again. Each year, a few more attractions are added, and Spencerama Days is once again a popular weekend summer event.
“Last year we about doubled from the year before,” in terms of participants, Schafer said. “This year we’re hoping for even more.”
Spencerama Days will feature a long list of family-friendly activities, from breakfast in the park all three mornings, to a community church service and parade on Sunday, to various games and bounce houses for the kids. A new Miss Spencer and Little Miss Spencer will be crowned Saturday evening, and the Chamber of Commerce will restart the tradition of naming a citizen of the year.
