Races developing for 69th Assembly seat, Clark DA post
With still two weeks to go before the June 1 filing deadline for fall 2012 elections, area voters can already plan for contested races for the 69th District Assembly seat, the Clark County register of deeds position, and possibly the county’s district attorney job. As of May 15, several candidates had at least started the process of filing to have their names on fall ballots for various positions.
In the 69th Assembly District, which has shifted geographically eastward as a result of recent redistricting legislation, incumbent Scott Suder has filed initial paperwork with the state Government Accountability Board to seek another 2-year term in Madison. The Abbotsford Republican will have a challenge for the seat this time, as Democrat Paul Knoff of Granton has filed his candidacy declaration.

Greenwood seeks new principal
For the second year in a row, the Greenwood Board of Education is looking for a new junior/senior high school principal and athletic director. Corey Peterson, who has officially held the position since last July 1, has resigned effective at the end of the school year to take a position in another district.
District Administrator Jennifer Vogler said the Board is now taking applications for Peterson’s successor. May 24 is the deadline date for applicants, so Vogler said it is doubtful that a new person will be hired in time to introduce him or her to the students before school lets out for the summer on June 1.
“Hopefully, we’ll have somebody on by early June,” Vogler said.

Bulldogs drop two league games
The Granton baseball team was unable to garner its first win of the season, losing games last week to Cloverbelt Conference powerhouses Greenwood and Colby.
The Bulldogs took a 4-2 lead after scoring four runs in the top of the second inning on Thursday in Greenwood, including a two-run triple by Ben Eichten, but the Indians proved to be too powerful, eventually downing Granton 19-4 in five innings. Greenwood scored eight runs in the second inning and six runs in the third frame to ice the game.
Granton’s Ben Eichten tries to make a play at home plate on Jeff Rachu of Greenwood, who slides safely under the tag. The Indians went on to post a 19-4 win in the May 10 contest.
