CDA approves Gibson Street road project bid

by Brian Wilson

The Medford Community Development Authority met today (March 20) and approved hiring A-1 Excavating of Bloomer to reconstruct a portion of Gibson Street south to CTH O.
A-1 was the low bidder on the project with a bid of $328,333.
City coordinator John Fales, who is director of the CDA, explaied that they benefitted from a very competitive bidding environment. The estimate for the project was $425,000. Bids ranged from the low bid to $434,715.65 from Badger Environmental. Local bidders Melvin Company bid $345,403.92 and James Peterson Sons bid $399,825.41.
In addition to accepting the bids for the road project, the CDA approved a contract with Ayres Associates for additional design work on the Gison and CTH O intersection. The county is requiring a deceleration lane on CTH O which will move the trucks entering the Melvin Companies yard to be further back from the intersection. This should improve visibility for vehicles turning onto CTH O. The additional engineering work will cost $5,900.
The CDA has control of these projects because the work is a project under Tax Incremental District No. 12.
