Edwin Damm
1914-2008
Edwin H. Damm, 94, Stetsonville, died Sunday, Aug. 10 at St. Joseph's Hospital in Marshfield, where he had been a patient for the past day. Funeral services will be held Thursday, Aug. 14 at 11 a.m. at Peace United Church of Christ in Dorchester, with Rev. Robert Everhard officiating. Interment will be at Zion Evangelical Lutheran Cemetery in Stetsonville. Pallbearers will be Dick Baumer, Paul Hirsch, Jeff, Doug and Gary Ludwig, Darrel Damm and Mike Allemang.

Edwin Damm was born January 22, 1914 in the Town of Little Black to the late Robert and Mary (Schultz) Damm. He attended Liberty Elementary School in the Town of Little Black and was a graduate of Medford High School. He served in the National Guard from 1935 to 1938.
On August 20, 1938 in Dorchester, he married Myrtle Brunner, who preceded him in death in April 1983. On November 2, 1985 at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Stetsonville, he married Martha Plochocki-Ludwig, who survives. For 40 years, he and his brother, Harold, ran Damm Saw Mill in Stetsonville from 1938 until his retirement in 1978.
He was a member of Peace United Church of Christ and a past member of the Stetsonville Commercial Club. He was active throughout the years in various church capacities. His special interests were birds, cards, golfing, bowling and gardening. He was a volunteer firefighter for the Stetsonville Fire Department. He was responsible for the Damm Scholarship Fund which was given to Medford High School students each year.
In addition to his wife, Martha Ludwig-Damm of Stetsonville, survivors include his stepchildren, Jan (Paul) Hirsch of Burnsville, Minn., Pat (Dick) Baumer of Owatonna, Minn., Gary (Gabe) Ludwig of Seattle, Wash., Doug (Connie) Ludwig of Green Bay and Deb (Mike) Allemang of Oakdale, Minn.; a stepdaughter-in-law, Elaine Ludwig of Oconomowoc; numerous stepgrandchildren and stepgreat-grandchildren who loved him dearly; a special nephew, Darrel (Gail) Damm of Stetsonville; and several nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents and first wife, he was preceded in death by a stepson, Terry Ludwig; six brothers; and six sisters.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorials to the family for future designation.

James Hollman
1940-2008
James Hollman, 68, Abbotsford, died Saturday, Aug. 9 at the emergency department of St. Joseph's Hospital in Marshfield. A Mass of Christian Burial was held at St. Bernard's Catholic Church in Abbotsford, with Father Benjamin Franklin officiating. Burial was at Abbotsford Public Cemetery with military rites conducted. Pallbearers were Tyler Oleson, Rick Sperl, Jeff Ludwig, Mike Anderson, Jamie Feind and Mark "Soj" Struensee.

James Hollman was born May 20, 1940 in Dorchester to Frank and Helen (Riegert) Hollman. He attended parochial school at St. Louis Catholic Grade School and Dorchester High School. He served in the United States Army for two years until his honorable discharge.
On November 25, 1961 at Holy Rosary Catholic Church in Owen, he married MaryAnn Pabich, who survives. He worked at Packaging Corporation of America in Colby for 37 years until his retirement.
"Jungle" Jim enjoyed deer and turkey hunting with his son. He had a love for tractors in all shapes and sizes. He liked listening to polkas and especially took pleasure in going up north to the Willow Flowage with his wife to spend time with family and friends. He righteously understood the true meaning of family.
He will be sadly missed by his wife of 46 years, MaryAnn of Abbotsford; a son, Craig Hollman of Withee; a daughter, Deb (Tim) Brahmer of Medford; his siblings, Roberta Ludwig of Medford, Mary Jane (Glen) Ludwig of Marshfield, Judy Rahn of Milwaukee, Sondra (Ron) Wishardt of Virginia and Dennis Hollman of Greenwood; his grandchildren; Tyler Oleson of Madison and Shawna Oleson of Medford; many nieces and nephews; and other relatives and friends.
He was preceded in death by a son, Mitchell in 1990.

Lorene Lemke
1915-2008
Lorene M. Lemke, 93, Medford, died Monday, Aug. 11 at Memorial Nursing Home in Medford, where she had resided the past four months. A memorial service will be held Friday, Aug. 15 at 2:30 p.m. at St. Andrew's Evangelical Lutheran Church in the Town of Goodrich, with Rev. Roger Sloan officiating. Cremainal inurnment will take place at St. Andrew's Evangelical Lutheran Church Cemetery in the Town of Goodrich.
Visitation will be held at the church on Friday from 1:30 p.m. until the time of the service.

Lorene Lemke was born July 21, 1915 in Medford to the late Edward J. and Irene W. (Lemke) Lemke. She received her elementary education at Zion Lutheran in the Town of Morrison, Brown County, and Washington School in the Town of Goodrich, was a graduate of Medford High School and Taylor County Teachers College. She also attended the University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire and UW-Stevens Point, earning a bachelor's degree in elementary education. She taught in various Taylor County schools until her retirement in 1980.
She was a member of St. Andrew's Evangelical Lutheran Church and a past member and secretary of St. Andrew's Ladies Aid Society and Sunday school teacher. She enjoyed cooking and above all she was a caretaker of others, especially her family.
Survivors include two nieces, Patricia (Craig) Hansen of Naperville, Ill. and Maureen (Tom) Skroski of Eau Claire; 2 nephews, Edward (Rosemary) White and Timothy (Susan) White, both of Mequon; 10 grand-nieces and grand-nephews; four great-grand-nieces; and five great-grand-nephews.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a brother, Harold, two sisters, Irma White and Berga Lemke; and a brother-in-law, Edward White.
In lieu of flowers the family requests memorials in her name to St. Andrew's Evangelical Lutheran Church or Immanuel Radio Service of Medford.

Ellen Recore-Schwoch
1932-2008
Former Medford resident Ellen M. Recore-Schwoch, 76, Dorchester, died Wednesday, Aug. 6 at St. Joseph's Hospital in Marshfield, where she had been a patient for the past two weeks, surrounded by her family. Funeral services were held Saturday, Aug. 9 at Zion Lutheran Church in Colby, with Rev. Mark Neumann officiating. Cremainal Inurnment will take place at a later date at Medford Evergreen Cemetery II. Pallbearers were her grandsons, Shannon and Robert Kayhart, Lucas and Lewis Wenzel, Steven and DuWayne Recore and Gage and Grant Neubauer.

The former Ellen Reeder was born June 8, 1932 in Fairmount, Ill., to the late Ralph F. and Marie (Rice) Reeder. She attended Frazier Elementary School in Georgetown, Ill. and grade school in Rossville, Ill.
On February 14, 1949 in Milwaukee, she married Clifford J. Recore, who preceded her in death on March 29, 1999. On April 17, 2001, she married Ted Schwoch, who survives. Ellen and Clifford owned and operated Cherokee Strip in Colby for seven years, then bought a hobby farm in the Town of Deer Creek. They moved to Dorchester in 1980 and in 1985 moved to the Medford area on a private lake. She worked third shift sanitization crew at Tombstone Pizza for 10 years until her retirement.
She was a member of Zion Lutheran Church of Colby and Lions Club of Dorchester. She enjoyed fishing, especially with her grandchildren, plaster craft, camping and shooting pool.
In addition to her husband Ted, survivors include her children, Michael Recore, Clifford Recore, Brandon (Debbie) Recore and Andrea (Dale) Neubauer, all of Medford, Diane Kayhart and Terry Recore, both of Dorchester and Char Loiz of Wausau; a brother, Donald (Martha) Scaff of Quincy, Ill.; two sisters, Dorothy Darding of Rossville and her twin sister, Helen (Elbert) Holder of Beverly Hills, Fla.; 15 grandchildren; Lisa (John) Clark, DuWayne Recore, Jennifer (Tim) Zettler, Adam Hainzslperger, Stacey (Dan) Baumgartner, Shannon Kayhart, Robert (Kristen) Kayhart, Erin (Jason) Orr, Lucas (Nikki) Wenzel, Lewis Wenzel, Steven Recore, Heather Recore, Kendra Miller and Gage and Grant Neubauer; and 19 great-grandchildren.
In addition to her parents and first husband, she was preceded in death by a sister, Lucille Reeder; a half brother, Jack Reeder and her stepfather, Dan Scaff.

John Robida
1917-2008
John A. Robida, 91, Dorchester, passed away Monday, Aug. 11, 2008 in the Palliative Care Unit at St. Joseph's Hospital in Marshfield, where he had been admitted on August 10, 2008. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11 a.m. on Thursday, Aug. 14, 2008 at St. Bernard's Catholic Church in Abbotsford. Concelebrants for the Mass will be Rev. Benjamin Franklin, Pastor, and Rev. James Schaefer, a former family parish priest. A private family commital service at Dorchester Cemetery will be held at a later date. Pallbearers will be Craig, Cuyler and Chad Robida, Jay and Jody Apfelbeck, Matthew Flores and Jon Harris. Honorary pallbearers will be Jared Younker and Tyler and Cody Thorson.
John was born May 1, 1917 to Anton and Mary (Murien) Robida in the Town of Deer Creek in Taylor County. He attended grade school at Pleasant Valley Grade School in Deer Creek until the eighth grade. He started his work career as a licensed cheesemaker working in Stetsonville. John later became owner/operator of a dairy farm outside of Dorchester. John married Jeannette E. Gebert on September 1, 1941 at St. Louis Catholic Church in Dorchester. After retiring from farming, John started doing carpentry work, which he enjoyed. John's greatest love was his wife, Jeannette, and their snowbirding to Texas and Florida for over 16 years. John enjoyed fishing and camping and traveling in their motorhome. John is a member of the Catholic Order of Foresters and a member of St. Louis Catholic Church.
John is survived by his loving and caring wife, Jeannette of Dorchester; his children, Karen (fiancé Terry Lamoreux) Apfelbeck of Medford, Ronald (Judy) Robida of Dorchester, Gwendolyn Harris of Scandanavia and Trude (Tom) Garguilo of Orlando, Fla.; 16 grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren; and two stepgreat-grandchildren. John is further survived by his siblings, Ann Denzin of Medford, Margaret (Walter) Balciar of Medford and Donavan (Jo) Robida of Stratford; and a sister-in-law, Agnes Robida. Also survived by many other relatives and many friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents; a son, Reginald; two brothers, Roy and William Robida; and a brother-in-law, Ed Denzin.

Mable Selk
Mable P. Selk, 88, Medford, died Wednesday, Aug. 13 at Memorial Nursing Home in Medford.

Former Rib Lake resident David Lynn Thomas, 42, Withee, died Wednesday, Aug. 6 at his home. Interment will take place at a later date at Garden of Memories Cemetery in the Town of Hill.

Stuart M. Welte, 83, Sheldon, died Monday, Aug. 4 at his home. Graveside services will be held Thursday, Aug. 14 at 11 a.m. at Mount Nebo Cemetery in Jump River, with Keith Plombon officiating.

Jennie Zenker-Langteau
1914-2008
Jennie E. Zenker-Langteau, 93, Medford, died Sunday, Aug. 10 at Memorial Nursing Home in Medford, where she had resided the past six months. Funeral services were held Wednesday, Aug. 13 at The United Church Of Christ in Medford, with Rev. Cathy Hinman officiating. Burial was at Medford Evergreen Cemetery II. Active pallbearers were Keith Smith, Jim Metz, Randy Prather, Feliks Zajaczkowski, Cory Boudreau and Ed Smith. Honorary pallbearers were her six granddaughters.

The former Jennie Roberts was born November 23, 1914 in Independence, Iowa to the late Charles and Mary (Domer) Roberts. She attended Iowa elementary schools and was a 1933 graduate of Medford High School. She worked as a bookkeeper in the Medford area.
On June 6, 1936 in Medford, she married Elmer W. Zenker, who preceded her in death on August 24, 1980. On September 10, 1988 at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Colby, she married Roy Langteau, who preceded her in death on January 7, 2000. She and her first husband farmed in the Town of Little Black for many years and she also worked as a cook for the Liberty Elementary School, then later at Memorial Hospital in Medford. When the new hospital was built, she became the dietary supervisor until her retirement in 1980.
She was a member of The United Church of Christ in Medford, Colby Senior Citizens and Taylor County Homemakers Club. She enjoyed gardening, crocheting, cooking, knitting, canning vegetables, garage sales, playing cards and volunteering with activities at the Colby Nursing Home. Her greatest joy was spending time with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Survivors include a daughter, Beverly (Jim) Metz of Medford; a daughter-in-law, Pat (Leon) Westerfeld of Shawano; a brother, Frank (Alice) of Medford; three sisters, Dorothy Knipshield of Florida, Edna Perrine of Milwaukee and Eleanor Smith of Kansas City, Mo.; six granddaughters, Teri (Frank) Ross of Florida, Lisa (Shawn) Wiederin of Cedar Rapids, Iowa, Dena Smith of Lake Mills, Danelle Smith of Storm Lake, Iowa, and Kristin (Eric) Weiler and Jennifer (Ryan) Hibbard, both of Green Bay; 11 great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild; and many nieces and nephews.
In addition to her parents and husbands, she was preceded in death by a son, Ervin Zenker in 1987; two brothers, George and Tom; and two sisters, Pearl O'Brien and Verna Smith.

Margaret Henkel
1924-2008
Margaret A. Henkel, 84, Medford, died Tuesday, July 29 at her son's home, following a battle with cancer. Funeral services were held Monday, Aug. 4 at Christ United Church in Athens, with Rev. Kenneth A. Dix officiating. Burial was at the Athens Village Cemetery.

The former Margaret Bergmann was born March 4, 1924 in the Town of Goodrich to the late Henry and Elsie (Harmel) Bergmann.
On November 15, 1941 at Christ Evangelical and Reformed Church, she married Oscar Henkel, who preceded her in death on March 12, 2002. She was a homemaker.
She enjoyed quilting, crocheting, knitting and camping.
Survivors include two sons, Russell (Ann) and Gary (Pat), both of Medford; a daughter, Linda (Harvey) Pelot of Wisconsin Rapids; a son-in-law, Dale Goessl of Vesper; three brothers, Norman, Roland (Jean) and Herbert (Priscilla), all of Medford; a sister, Carol (John) Zinkowich of Athens; six grandchildren, Erick and Raymond Henkel of Connecticut, Gregory Henkel of Medford, Christal Henkel of Colby, Scott Pelot of Albany, N.Y. and Pam Pelot of Neenah; and three great-grandchildren, Gregory, Brandon and Joshua Pelot, all of Albany.
In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by a daughter, Laurie Goessl; three brothers, Robert and two in infancy; and a sister, Elizabeth Hallberg.

Theresa Hess
1919-2008
Former Abbotsford resident Theresa R. Hess, 88, Owen, died Saturday, Aug. 2 at Clark County Health Care Center in Owen where she had resided the past four months, surrounded by her loving family. Funeral services will be held Thursday, Aug. 7 at St. Bernard's Catholic Church in Abbotsford, with Father Ben Franklin officiating. Interment will be at Dorchester Memorial Cemetery. The former Theresa Schmid was born August 25, 1919 in the Town of Mayville, Dorchester, to the late Anselm P. and Alice E. (Bushman) Schmid Jr. She attended Dorchester Elementary School.
On June 1, 1942 at Camp Bowie, Texas in the Company Catholic Chapel, she married Robert J. Hess, who preceded her in death on August 13, 2002. They owned and operated an egg ranch in the Town of Colby for many years.
She was a member of St. Bernard's Catholic Church and past member of St. Bernard's Women's Altar Society and the Library Club, and also belonged to various card clubs. She enjoyed gardening, dancing, sewing and cooking.
Survivors include her children, Nancy (Albert) Erbach of Fond du Lac, Edward (Patricia) of Butternut, Michael of Mosinee and Rita (Terry) Tischendorf of Medford; a brother, Anselm III (Rowena) of Dorchester; a sister-in-law, Irene Schmid of Medford; a brother-in-law, Roland Schneider of Medford; eight grandchildren, Robert Erbach, Donald Hess, Christine (Jason) Ingbretson, Steve (Kristie) Hess, Heather Hess, Kristopher Hess and Eric and Angela Tischendorf; and five great-grandchildren, Soren, Blake, Celina, Gwyneth and Cane.
In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by two brothers, Lawrence and Edward; and two sisters, Amelia Schneider and Irene Lewer.

Frieda Johnson
1924-2008
Frieda M. Johnson, 84, Medford, died Saturday, Aug. 2 at Memorial Nursing Home in Medford, where she had resided the past four months, while under hospice care and surrounded by her family. Funeral services were held Wednesday, Aug. 6 at Holy Rosary Catholic Church in Medford, with Father Norbert De Mello and Deacon Joseph Stefancin officiating. Interment was at Medford Evergreen Cemetery. Pallbearers were Corey and Jason Faude, Danny Cedarholm, Jason Neubauer, Perry Messmann and Pat Preman.

The former Frieda Neubauer was born February 12, 1924 in the Town of Medford to the late John and Mary (Demlitner) Neubauer. She attended Loyal and Town of Hammel schools.
In May 1939 she married Oren Bishop and they later divorced. In December 1952 she married Arthur Domine, who preceded her in death. On August 9, 1969 at Trinity Lutheran Church in Whittlesey, she married Albert R. Johnson, who preceded her in death on February 5, 2006. She was a housekeeper in the Chicago, Ill. area, then worked at Roddis Veneer Company in Marshfield. Arthur and Frieda owned and operated the Neubauer's Nightclub in the Town of Hammel for 16 years. She then owned and operated the Nightingale Tavern in the Town of Grover with her husband Albert for three years. They moved into Medford where she was a bartender at various taverns, then worked at Memorial Hospital of Taylor County and Memorial Nursing Home as a housekeeper from June 1981 until her retirement in November 1997.
She was a member of Holy Rosary Catholic Church and VFW Ladies Auxiliary of Medford. She enjoyed housekeeping, gardening, baking, cooking, her family and friends, and was always there with helping hands.
Survivors include her children, Aaron (Sharon) Bishop, Carol Cedarholm, Wayne Domine, Charlene (Jerry) Faude and Larry (Juli) Johnson, all of Medford, Darlene (Pat) Preman of Suring and Danny Domine of New Lisbon; two brothers, Christian "Ted" and Maynard, both of Medford; 20 grandchildren; 31 great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren.
In addition to her parents and husbands, she was preceded in death by a son, Edward Bishop in infancy; a grandson, Terry Cedarholm; eight sisters, Mary, Katie, Grace, Agnus, Annie, Rosie, Frances and Bertha; and seven brothers, George, Carl, Mike, John and three in infancy.

Irma Klauser
1928-2008
Irma V. Klauser, 80, Medford, died Monday, Aug. 4 at Memorial Nursing Home in Medford, where she had resided the past six years, while under hospice care. Funeral services were held Wednesday, Aug. 6 at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Medford, with Rev. John Melke officiating. Interment was at Medford Evergreen Cemetery. Pallbearers were Roy Jaslowski, Melvin and Scott Mildbrand, Dennis Blasel, Mike Plooy and Greg Krug.

Irma Klauser was born April 4, 1928 in Milwaukee to the late Christ and Bertha (Greiner) Klauser. She was a graduate of Medford High School and worked at the Medford Co-op as a bookkeeper for 16 years. She then worked as a bookkeeper for Consolidated Badger-Morning Glory in Medford for 16 years before transferring to Marshfield and working there for three years. She also worked as a bookkeeper and cleaning lady for the U.S. Forestry Service until retiring in 1990.
She was a member of Immanuel Lutheran Church and past member of Immanuel Ladies Aid. She enjoyed refinishing old furniture, crocheting and embroidering.
Survivors include her long-time friend, Roy Jaslowski of Medford; caretaker and friend, Arvella Mildbrand of Medford; and many other friends.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a sister, Anna B. Hempel on June 24, 2001; and a brother in infancy.
In lieu of flowers, memorials can be made to Immanuel Lutheran School.


Ellen Recore
Former Medford resident Ellen M. Recore, 76, Dorchester, died Wednesday, Aug. 6 at St. Joseph's Hospital in Marshfield. Funeral services will be held Saturday, Aug. 9 at 11 a.m. at Zion Lutheran Church in Colby, with Rev. Mark Neumann officiating. Cremainal inurnment will take place at a later date in Medford Evergreen Cemetery II.
Visitation will be held Friday, Aug. 8 from 4 to 8 p.m. at Hemer Funeral Home in Medford, and at the church on Saturday from 9 a.m. until the time of the service.

Edgar Roberts
1927-2008
Edgar R. Roberts, 80, Town of Westboro, died Thursday, July 31 at St. Joseph's Hospital. A memorial service will be held Wednesday, Aug. 27 at 11 a.m. at the Westboro VFW Hall. Interment will be at the Arpin Cemetery.

Edgar Roberts was born November 27, 1927 in Taylor County to the late Evor and Grace (Woodford) Roberts. He graduated from Beaver Dam High School. He served as an automotive mechanic in the United States Army during World War II. In addition to farming, he worked at Reckenthaler Electric Service in Medford and later began Roberts Electric Repair which he operated for many years.
He enjoyed horses, researching family history and collected antique cameras.
Survivors include two sisters, Pansy Waltz of Phoenix, Ariz. and Anne (Alfred) Hansen of Buffalo Grove, Ill.; and nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother, Roy; and a sister, June Roberts.

Susan Roush
1964-2008
Susan Carla Naomi Roush, 44, Medford, died Wednesday, July 23 at Memorial Nursing and Rehab Center in Medford while recuperating from a stroke in early May. Her funeral was held Monday, July 28 in the Chapel of Memories in Highland Garden of Memories in Belvidere, Ill. The Rev. Philip Henselin, pastor of New Life Lutheran Church in Rockford, Ill., officiated.
Susan was born March 8, 1964 in Belvidere, Ill. to James C. Sr. and Gloria (Loescher) Roush of Marengo, Ill. She attended Marengo area schools and graduated from Marengo Community High School in 1983.
She was employed at Pioneer Center in McHenry, Ill., for approximately 10 years prior to moving to the Medford area in 1996. She lived with her brother, Gene, in Stetsonville until she was able to find her own apartment and live independently which was her No. 1 wish in life. She continued to grow spiritually, mentally, emotionally and experienced a lot of 'firsts' during that time of her life. Susan's greatest joy, however, was working at Black River Industries (BRI) where she was employed for more than 12 years, making new friends and challenging the staff.
At the time of her death she was a member of Immanuel Lutheran Church and served as a volunteer at Memorial Nursing and Rehab Center. She especially enjoyed participating in the Special Olympics program and showing off her trophies and ribbons, and she equally enjoyed her volunteer time with the nursing home residents. Her hobbies also included crocheting, puzzles and writing to pen pals.
Survivors include her mother, Gloria Roush of Woodstock, Ill.; two brothers, Eugene (Carol) Roush of Stetsonville and Arlyn (Elizabeth) Roush of Woodstock, Ill.; many nieces and nephews; and cherished friends and co-workers.
She was preceded in death by her father, James C. Roush Sr.; and a brother, James C. Roush Jr.

Darrell Lee Radtke, 70, Bull Shoals, Ark., died Wednesday, July 16 at Baxter Regional Medical Center. A memorial services was held Monday, July 21 at Kirby and Family Funeral Home in Bull Shoals, with Rev. Kenneth Taglauer officiating. Burial was private.
Darrell Radtke was born May 10, 1938 in Rib Lake to the late Fred and Irene Radtke.
On May 27, 1994 in Rice Lake, he married Emmy Braun Lemire. He was a commercial loan officer in the banking industry. He lived in Lakeview for eight years, then moved to Rice Lake.
He enjoyed the outdoors, hunting, fishing, playing cribbage and restoring old cars.
In addition to his wife, survivors include a son, Michael (Jen) of Greenville; a daughter, Colleen Balzola of Iron Mountain, Mich.; a stepson; four stepdaughters; a brother, Donald (Beth) of Carthage, Ill.; four grandsons; and 10 stepgrandchildren. Survivors include a son, Michael "Doc" (Sharon) of Medford; a daughter-in-law, Charlene Doyle of Medford; a brother, Robert (Louise) of Maryland; five grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.

Florence Dahlberg
1927-2008
Florence Catherine Dahlberg, 81, Medford, died Saturday, July 19 at the Golden LivingCenter in Rib Lake, while under the care of Hope Hospice and Palliative Care. Funeral services were held Wednesday, July 23 at Dallmann-Kniewel Funeral Home in Rib Lake, with Father Gerard Willger officiating. Interment was at Hillside Cemetery in Ogema. Pallbearers were Adam Berreth, Chase Hein, Dominic Muenchow, Joshua Muenchow, Logan Muenchow, William Madill and Zachary D'Amato.
The former Florence Madill was born May 6, 1927 in Rosefield, Saskatchewan, Canada, to the late Alik and Cecilia (Klotz) Madill. She attended grade school in Canada. Her family moved to Solesha, Mont., when she was a teenager and she graduated from high school in Montana, then was employed in Billings, Mont. She then moved to Chicago, Ill. where she attended night school at a business college and worked.
On March 12, 1960 in Chicago, she married Marlin Leonard Dahlberg, who survives. They lived in Chicago, then moved to Tomahawk in 1966 where they purchased a restaurant and named it Mar-Flo Restaurant, which they owned until 1973. They had also owned a farm in Ogema. They then moved to Medford where they purchased a root beer stand and converted it into a diner which they called Miracle Mile Diner, and owned it from 1973 to 1980 when they sold it to the Krug family.
She was a member of Holy Rosary Catholic Church and a former member of St. Theresa's Catholic Church in Westboro. She enjoyed gardening, cooking and baking.
In addition to her husband, survivors include a daughter, Marlana (Christopher) Helbig of North Fond du Lac; three brothers, William and Carl, both of Billings and Cecil of Great Falls, Mont.; five sisters, Eleanor Ruff, Helen Hillner, Pauline Hibscher and Georgina Heiser all of Billings and Isabell Beyl of Phoenix, Ariz.; two grandchildren, Adam Berreth of Wausau and Tiffany (Jason) Muenchow of Merrill; 10 great-grandchildren; nieces and nephews; and other relatives and friends.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by two brothers, Alik Jr. and Al.

Doris Ploeckelman

Doris E. Ploeckelman, 88, Dorchester, passed away Thursday, July 17, 2008 at Golden LivingCenter/Continental Manor in Abbotsford, under the tender and loving care of Ministry Home Care Hospice of Marshfield. Funeral services were held Monday, July 21 at St. Peter Lutheran Church in Dorchester. The Rev. Jerome Freimuth officiated. Burial was at Dorchester Memorial Cemetery.
Maurina-Schilling Funeral Home of Dorchester assisted the family with arrangements.
Doris was born October 13, 1919 to George and Dorothy (Zwingli) Buehler in Medford. She attended Spruce Grove Elementary School in the Town of Deer Creek in Taylor County until the eighth grade. Doris then graduated from Medford High School and further attended Taylor County Normal School in Medford for two years.
She married Clarence Carl Ploeckelman on June 3, 1994 in the parsonage at Immanuel Evangelical Lutheran Church in Medford. Doris was a farm wife for 36 years. She and Clarence farmed for two years in the Town of Deer Creek, then moved onto a farm in the Town of Holton in Marathon County. That was their home until they retired from farming in 1980 and moved to Dorchester. Her husband Clarence passed away August 29, 2002.
Doris was a former member of the Mother's Club at Bruckerville School in the Town of Holton, and a former member of the PTA at Dorchester Grade School. Doris was a current member of St. Peter Lutheran Church, the Ladies Aid and the Homemakers Group, all in Dorchester. Doris will be always remembered by her family as being a "great cook," especially her bread making. The vegetables she canned were always the best and whenever there was a big event or gathering of family and friends, Doris was sure to provide a huge delicious meal, or what her family called a "complete farm meal." In her spare time Doris loved to sew and spend time with family.
Doris is lovingly survived by her children, Darlene (Ray) Hafferman of Hartland, William (Irma) Ploeckelman of Stratford, Dale (Nancy) Ploeckelman of Abbotsford, Janet (David) Piechowski of Richfield, Bonita Ervin of Black Rock Ark., Dawn Ploeckelman of Eau Claire, James (Cheryl) Ploeckelman of Stetsonville, David (Linda) Ploeckelman of Colby and Steven Ploeckelman of Hartland; 30 grandchildren; and 42 great-grandchildren. She is further survived by her siblings, Donald (Adeline) Buehler of Eagan, Minn., Lillian (Robert) Sackman of Medford, Phyllis Dable of Mosinee, Philip (Elsie) Buehler of Medford, David Buehler of Athens and Rex (Lee) Buehler of Merrill; and other relatives and friends.
Doris was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; one son, Roy Ploeckelman; one brother, John Buehler; and one son-in-law, Ron Ervin.

Randy Quelle

Randy Scott Quelle, 50, passed away peacefully at his home in Withee on Monday, July 21, 2008 after a courageous battle with cancer, surrounded by his loving wife, Lori, sons Ben and Caleb and other family members.
Randy was born on March 18, 1958 in Marshfield to the late Harley and Dora (Doege) Quelle. He was the youngest of seven children.
Randy attended Owen-Withee schools and graduated in 1976. He was united in marriage to Lori Niznik in 1978 at St. John's Lutheran Church, where they remain members.
Randy worked at Liberty Homes for 17 years and was currently employed by Indianhead Community Action Agency where he did home improvement and weatherization work.
Randy's first love was his family and he loved spending time outdoors. He strived to keep them warm through the cold Wisconsin winters making firewood, which he loved to do. He enjoyed fishing, hunting and hanging out on his land by Black River with his family and buddies, Dober, Dennis and Fit (God rest his soul).
He will be sadly missed by his wife of 30 years, Lori; two sons, Ben (Jewelene) of Marshfield; Caleb (Brianne Christophersen) of Withee; three grandchildren, Rhiannon, Axel and Riley; brothers, Ronald (Carol) Quelle of Bensenville, Ill. and Rodney (Cindy) Quelle of Phillips; sisters, Dawn (the late John) Izewski and Doreen (Frank) Grendys of Phillips; numerous nieces and nephews; cousins, sisters and brothers-in-law; his mother-in-law, Winnie Niznik; and many friends.
He was preceded in death by his son, Joshua; his parents, Harley and Dora Quelle; two brothers, Clarence (Geno) and Richard; two sisters-in-law, Barbara (Clarence Quelle) and Billie (Richard Quelle); and brother-in-law, John Izewski.

Former Medford resident Lillian O. Reimann, 84, Rib Lake, died Wednesday, July 23 at Memorial Health Center in Medford, where she had been a patient for the past two days. Funeral services will be held Saturday, July 26 at Hemer Funeral Home in Medford, with Rev. Cathy Hinman officiating. Cremainal inurnment will take place at a later date in Medford Evergreen Cemetery.
Visitation will be held at the funeral home on Saturday from 9 a.m. until the time of the service.
Lillian Reimann was born August 18, 1923 in Medford to the late Gustav R. and Alma C. (Sachse) Reimann. She attended Whittlesey area schools. She was a babysitter and housekeeper in Milwaukee, and worked at the Fayette Hotel.
She enjoyed playing bingo, flowers and music and was a Packers fan.
Survivors include her brothers and sisters, Franklin (Dorothy) of Milwaukee, Elmer (Carol), Ray (Hattie), Marilyn Reimann and Evelyn Reimann, all of Medford, Neil (Delores) of Westboro and Juliana Reimann of Madison; a sister-in-law, Leta Reimann of Oak Creek; numerous nieces and nephews; and other relatives and friends.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by four brothers, two in infancy and Leslie and Vernon.

Marland Schmidt
1926-2008
Marland L. Schmidt, age 81, formerly of Bloomer, passed away peacefully Thursday, July 17, 2008, at Colonial Center Exceptional Living Center in Colby, following a courageous 16-year battle with cancer.
Marland Lazelle Schmidt was born Oct. 18, 1926, in rural Ceylon, Minn., to Herman and Zola (Jorgensen) Schmidt. He and his mother were born in the same farmhouse. He and his parents moved to a house in Ceylon, to another farm west of Ceylon, and then above a grocery store in Ormsby, Minn., operated briefly by his parents. They moved to Manyaska, then to an apartment above Ollie’s Clothing Store in Ceylon. He attended Ceylon Schools.
Following his graduation from Ceylon High School in 1944 he enlisted on July 13, 1944 in the United States Navy. He was stationed on the USS Warren APA 53. Stops along his tour of duty included San Pedro, Calif., San Diego, Calif., New Guinea, Okinawa, Leyte, Luzon, Eniwetok, the Philippines, North China, Tokyo Bay and San Francisco, Calif. He was honorably discharged Sept. 13, 1946.
Marland worked for Standard Oil for 4-1/2 years as a salesman and clerk. He was then hired as an area manager and district manager for the St. Paul Pioneer Press newspaper, serving diligently for 27-1/2 years. He then “retired” to begin working as a bartender and maintenance man at the family business, the Bloomer Hotel. In his spare time he worked as a maintenance man at M&I Bank and Kirkwood’s IGA, both in Bloomer. For the past 11 years, until his official retirement in Feb. 2008, Marland served well as a Foster Grandparent at Parkview Elementary School in Chippewa Falls, assisting disadvantaged children with reading, writing and arithmetic. He also loved networking with other senior citizens.
He was united in marriage in 1947 to Alvera Swift. They later divorced. Marland then married Lizbeth Ann “Bette” Robinson in 1954.
He was a member of First Congregational Church in Bloomer, serving 49 years as church treasurer. He was a long-time member of the Bloomer Lions Club, and was a proud recipient of the Melvin Jones award for humanitarian service. He was a member of the Bloomer Masonic Lodge and the American Legion and Veterans of Foreign Wars organizations.
Marland loved to read. His hobbies included fishing, hunting, golfing, bowling, coin and stamp collecting, gardening and lawn maintenance, and an occasional visit to the casino. He enjoyed doting on his nine grandchildren, four step-grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren.
He is survived by his two sons, Todd (Kelly) Schmidt of Colby, Wis., and Greg (Diane) Schmidt of Mankato Minn.; one daughter, Barbara (Ken) Weldon, Bloomington, Minn.; one brother, Dennis (Laura) Schmidt, Lakeland, Minn.; three sisters, Darlene (and the late Richard) Gieser, Dresser, Norma (Les) Reynolds, Nevada, Iowa, Donna (Tom) Uram, Corona Del Mar, Calif.; nine grandchildren, Dana (Brian) Hansen, Jeff (Shana) Schmidt, Michael Schmidt, Jason (Renee) Buchholz, Melissa (Todd) Puchalla, Chris Schmidt, Tony Schmidt, Derik Weldon and Lissa (Mike) Weldon; four step-grandchildren, Kyla, Michael and Brandi Reischel and Jack Schmidt; nine great-grandchildren, 23 nieces and nephews; one special friend, Dee Cramblit of Bloomer; and one special former daughter-in-law, Susie (David) Swoboda of Jim Falls.
Marland was preceded in death by his parents, his wife Bette, and an infant brother, Darrell Schmidt.
Funeral services for Marland were held Sunday, July 20, 2008, at First Congregational United Church of Christ, Bloomer. Pastor Phil Schneider presided. Music was provided by Vicki Berg, organist, and grandson Michael Schmidt, vocalist. Inurnment will be in the Bloomer City Cemetery at a future date. Military honors were accorded by the Bloomer American Legion and Veterans of Foreign Wars.
Visitation was held on Saturday, July 19, from 4-8 p.m. at the Schriver Funeral Chapel, Bloomer, and Sunday, July 20, from noon-2 p.m. at First Congregational United Church of Christ. Casket bearers were Jeff and Shana Schmidt, Dana and Brian Hansen, Michael Schmidt, Jason and Renee Buchholz, Todd and Melissa Puchalla, Dennis Schmidt and Kyla, Michael and Brandi Reischel.

She then lived and worked in Chicago, Ill. for many years before moving back to the Hannibal area where she worked as a secretary for the Gilman school system. On December 31, 1981 in Sheldon, she married Raymond Hoehn, who preceded her in death.
She enjoyed visiting with her many friends, spending time traveling and solving crossword puzzles.

The former Viola Swanson was born March 13, 1915 in Spirit to the late August John and Emma Catrina (Johnsson) Swanson. She attended Chatewie Graded School, then worked on the family farm.
On June 28, 1941 in Prentice, she married Henry August Zielke, who preceded her in death on January 28, 1984. They moved to Dayton, Ohio. While Henry served during World War II, she was employed by a defense contractor. After the war ended, they moved back to the Town of Spirit to the family farm and purchased it from her father. After her husband's death, she continued to live on the farm until 1995 when she moved to the Briarwood apartments in Prentice.
She was a member of Zion Evangelical Lutheran Church, the Women of Spirit and the Liberty Bell Homemakers, and attended Brantwood Senior Center. She enjoyed traveling, walking, writing letters to family and friends, writing poetry, gardening, cooking, and she especially enjoyed visiting with her family.
Survivors include two children, Pamela Zielke of Tomahawk and the Fox Valley, and Darwin (Donna) of Medford; two sisters, her twin, Emily Burgeson and Victoria Nelson, both of Ogema; special friend, Wiho Maki of Prentice; four grandchildren, Merchelle (Christopher) Kolasa of Sparta, Malinda Zielke of Athens, Eric Zielke of Arcata, Calif. and Sarah Zielke of Ashland; three great-grandchildren, Kirsten, Tyler and Brandon Kolasa; nieces and nephews; and other relatives and friends.

Former Medford resident Mary Lee Andresen, 86, Oswego, Ill., died December 26, 2007 at Hillside Care Center, Yorkville, Ill. from complications due to Alzheimer’s disease. A memorial mass will take place at Saturday, July 12 at 10:30 a.m. at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Stetsonville with Mary’s brother, Rev. Frederick Brost officiating. The former Mary Brost was born November 23, 1921at Marshfield to the late George and Leona (Gelhaus) Brost. She attended Holy Rosary Catholic School in Medford and was a graduate of Medford High School and was a 1944 graduate of La Crosse State Teachers College; she also did graduate studies at Northern Illinois University. Her marriage to Tom C. Andresen, who survives, took place in 1946 in La Crosse. She had a life-long commitment to children with special needs and over 30 years of service in the teaching profession in schools in Illinois. After their retirement, they resided in the Hayward area. Recently they returned to Illinois to live nearer their children. She was devoted to her Catholic faith, her life, rooted in that faith, was never uprooted.

Gerald DeStaercke
(1936-2008)
Gerald H. “Jerry” DeStaercke, 71, Gilman, passed away Monday, July 7 at Memorial Health Center in Medford. Services will be Thursday, July 10 at 11 a.m. at the Zion Lutheran Church in Gilman with Pastor Steven Haag officiating. Burial will follow in the Meadowbrook Cemetery, Gilman.

Jerry DeStaercke was born December 1, 1936 in Green Bay to the late Adolph and Dorothy (Warrichiet) DeStaercke. He grew up in Green Bay and graduated from Green Bay East High School in 1955 and the University of Wisconsin-Madison in 1959.
On August 7, 1971 he was united in marriage to Jane Bader in Slayton, Minn.
He taught for one year in Lena and then worked for a short time at Kreuger Metal Products in Green Bay. In 1967 he took a teaching position as a social studies teacher at the Gilman High School.
He retired in 1996 after 30 years as an educator. Jerry also served almost 25 years as either trustee or village president in Gilman and was the president of the Gilman Industrial Foundation, and an active member of the Zion Lutheran Church in Gilman.
Upon his retirement, Jerry became his family’s historian and genealogist. He was a lifelong football fan and a Green Bay Packer season ticket holder since 1957. The only team that could come close to his love for the Packers was his devotion to the Gilman Pirates. He announced Pirate play-by-play for many years.
Jerry is survived by his wife, Jane, of Gilman; a son, Benjamin of Madison; two brothers, Dick (Sharon) and Michael (Jane) DeStaercke, both of Green Bay; a sister, Clarice (Jim) Bletcher of Sussex; and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents and two sisters, Marge and Patricia.

Walter Hardrath
1917-2008
Walter W. Hardrath, age 90, of Shawano, formerly of Spencer, passed away Tuesday, July 1, 2008 at a local nursing home. Born on September 28, 1917 in Riplinger, he was the son of the late Henry and Ann (Kuester) Hardrath. In 1936 Walter graduated from Marshfield High School and three years later attended the UW-Stout Trade School program. After trade school, he farmed for a number of years on the family farm. In July of 1941 Walter was united in marriage to Mary Edwards and together the couple made their home in the Spencer area. In 1954 he opened up a gas station and body shop on Highway 13 and ran it until the mid 1960s. Walter then worked for Pathfinder Mobil Homes and later Pittsville Homes, retiring in 1978. On February 8, 1993 Mary preceded Walter in death, and shortly after he moved to the Shawano area. Walter was very talented regarding all metals and woods and enjoyed carpentry work. He was known as a "jack of all trades."
Walter is survived by two daughters, Fay Reno of Abbotsford and Donna (Tom) Gueths of Shawano; 12 grandchildren; and 23 great-grandchildren.
Walter was preceded in death by his wife, Mary; two daughters, Nona Schulz and Fern Treptow; his parents; three brothers; and two sisters.
Funeral services were held Sunday, July 6 at St. John's Lutheran Church in Spencer, with Rev. Rebekah Tarras officiating. Burial was at West Spencer Cemetery. Memorial funds were established for Maple Lane Care Center in Shawano and St. John's Lutheran Church in Spencer. Swedberg Funeral Home in Shawano assisted the family with arrangements.

Katherine M. Hauser, 64, Mitchell, S.D. died Wednesday July 2, 2008 at Avera Queen of Peace Hospital in Mitchell from brain cancer. Bessie Kropp
1921-2008
Bessie N. Kropp, 87, Schofield, died Tuesday, July 1, 2008 under the care of Aspirus Comfort Care and Hospice Services at Allison House in Rothschild.
She was born May 18, 1921 in Goodrich, daughter of the late James and Magdalena (Kohout) Smola. On October 8, 1938 she married Lawrence Kropp at Trinity Lutheran Church in Athens. This marriage was blessed with four children and they shared sixty wonderful years together farming and raising their family. He preceded her in death on September 16, 1999.
Bessie was an avid gardener and loved to cook and bake for family and friends. She enjoyed many visitors including her many nieces, nephews, neighbors and friends. Bessie's greatest joy was in raising her family and her most treasured moments were those spent with her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She will forever be remembered for her sense of humor, her patience and the work ethic she instilled in those around her. She was dearly loved by her entire family and will be deeply missed.
Survivors include her daughters, Jeannine (Jim) Roiger of Weston and Carole (Dennis) Koch of Kronenwetter; sons, Rodney (Mary Ann) Kropp of Goodrich and Lawrence (Kay) Kropp of Ringle; 11 grandchildren; 20 great-grandchildren; and one great-great-granddaughter; sisters, Josephine (Clarence) Kropp of Highland Park, Ill. and Emily Fink of Athens; and many other nieces, nephews, relatives and friends.
In addition to her parents and husband, Lawrence, she was preceded in death by two brothers, George and Edward Smola; and two sisters, Ann Ost and Barbara Kemp.
The funeral service was held Monday, July 7 at St. Andrew Lutheran Church in Goodrich, with Pastor Carl Busse officiating. Burial was at Athens Cemetery in Athens.

Sean Michael Ried, 17, Colby, died Tuesday, July 8 following a drowning at Sackett Lake. Funeral services are Saturday, July 12 at 2 p.m. at First Baptist Church in Medford with Pastor Brian Wipf officiating.

Sean Ried was born October 15, 1990 at Marshfield to Roger and Martha Ried, who survive. He attended Colby elementary schools and was about to enter his senior year at Colby High School. While not in school, he worked preciously at Roger’s Silos in Unity. Presently he was an employee at McDonald’s in Abbotsford. He enjoyed assisting his elderly neighbors in Colby. He loved skateboarding, hunting, fishing and the outdoors. He was a member of the Chess Club of Colby High School.
In addition to his parents, survivors include his maternal grandparents, Eugene and Mernajean Strathman of Abbotsford; three brothers, Stephen Ried of Quad Cities, Iowa, Mark Ried and special friend Nina Doberstein of Medford, and twin brother Russell Ried of Colby; special friend, Shari Orth of Abbotsford; two nephews, aunts, uncles and cousins.
He was preceded in death by twin brothers, Roger and Robert Ried in 1976, and paternal grandparents, Arthur and Carrie Ried.

B. Carol Tollin, 88, Medford, passed away Monday, July 7 at the Memorial Nursing & Rehab Center in Medford under the care of Hope Hospice and Palliative Care. Funeral Services will be Friday, July 11 at 1 p.m. at the Maurina-Schilling Funeral Home in Abbotsford. The Rev. Kenneth A. Dix will officiate. B. Carol Tollin was born February 28, 1920 to the late Jesse and Rose (Peacock) Hall in Belvidere, Ill. She attended grade school in Poplar Grove, Ill. and later graduated from Belvidere High School. Following high school, Carol worked for the Greenlee Corp. in Illinois. She married Carl Tollin on Sept. 2, 1945 in Calendonia, Ill. Carol and Carl moved to Abbotsford in 1967 and later they began farming in the town of Mayville from 1971 until they both retired from farming in 1976. Her husband Carl passed away July 26, 1990. Carol was a member of the Homemakers Club in the town of Mayville and a past member of VASA and Brahe Lodge’s in Ill. In her spare time she loved to embroider and crochet.
She is lovingly survived by her two sons, David (Charlotte) Tollin of Roscoe, Illinois and Bruce Tollin of Medford. Carol is further survived by her grandchildren, Jennifer (Rick) Kuikman of Chicago, Ill., Patricia (Richard) Myers of Rockford, Ill., Melissa (Thomas Schoenfuss) Tollin of Colby and Kristy (Adam Strey) Tollin of Loyal and her great grandchildren: Kaila and Cody Kuelz, Matthew, Wendy, Kimberly and Andrew Kuikman, Evan Myers, Maeghan, Carol and Brandon Weiler, Kirsten Schoenfuss, Tyler Geiger, Alex Best, Hayden Kops, and Ava and Emma Strey. Also survived by many other relatives and friends.

At the conclusion of the evening service, he will be honored with a full military service conducted by the Lehman-Clendenning American Legion Post No. 274 of Rib Lake. Kenneth Dunkel was born July 6, 1929 in the Town of Holway to George and Minnie (Larson) Dunkel. He attended Green Grove Graded School. After graduating from grade school he worked on the family farm, then at the age of 17 enlisted in the United States Air Force where he served for 24 years. He achieved the rank of Staff Sergeant.

Dennis Allen Jensen, 68, Ogema, died Saturday, March 8, 2008 in Tucson, Ariz., after a courageous battle with cancer. Memorial services are being planned for later this spring.
Dennis Jensen was born May 31, 1939 in Whittlesey to the late Earl and Lillian Jensen, and was raised in Rib Lake. He served in the United States Air Force during the Vietnam War. He worked in general aviation electronics and in 2000 opened Jensen Calibration, a tool calibration lab, in Ogema.
