Mackesy Wins Championship, Jason Weinkauf Wins Race

Wausau, WI - Mack Mackesy had the C-Tech Super Late Model Title wrapped up heading in to the 2nd Annual Fighting Cancer Full Throttle 75 Thursday night, but it was Jason Weinkauf who stole the show, finding his way to Buffalo Wild Wings Victory lane for the first time this year at State Park Speedway.

Burton Brown started on the pole with Weinkauf to his outside and it was the 76 of Weinkauf who stook the early lead and Brown settled in to second.
On the restart after a quick caution, Lepak moved his way in to second and looked outside Weinkauf or the lead. The two battled side by side or three laps before the 76 reclaimed the top spot.

As the front two put distance on the field, Brown battled side by side with Tim Sauter for third. With 51 laps to go Matt Tift, in his first race at SPS, found his way around Sauter and in to the fourth spot.

While the battles were tight from fourth on back, Weinkauf opened a big lead on the rest of the field. With just under 25 laps to go, Mark Eswein, Tucker Miller, and Mark Mackesy all worked their way around Sauter and Tift and fell in to the third through fifth spots.

Burton Brown began to close on leader Weinkauf and with 14 laps to go looked inside for the lead, however lap traffic got in the way, and he fell back in to second spot.

Brown and Eswein battled or the third spot with Miller right behind. Miller followed Brown on the inside lane and with 11 laps to go and lap traffic in the way, Miller looked to make it three wide to take the second spot, Brown backed out and Miller grabbed the spot and set his sights on Weinkauf.

By that time Weinkauf's lead was too big. The 76 heled green to checkers, with Miller in second, Brown third, Eswein fourth, and Point Champion Mackesy fifth.

Ryan Hinner led Lyle Nowak by 11 going in to the final race of the year or the Super Stocks. Unfortunately for Nowak, he experienced motor problems early in the day and was unable to start the feature.

Natalie Decker started on the pole of the 20-lap Super Stock feature, took the early lead and put some distance between herself and the rest of the field. Just a few laps in to the race Hinner was forced to pull off with a flat right front tire, but with Mike Gwidt the next closest in points, 38 points back, he was still a lock for the season championship.

Decker settled in to the lead with Wayne Mackesy in second and Gwidt in third. Gwidt closed in on the second spot and looked inside on the white lag lap. As Decker took the checkered flag or the second time this season, Gwidt edged Mackesy at the line. Hinner wrapped up the SPS Title and with his great run, Gwidt earned second in points and Nowak third.

Travis Volm all but had the Pure Stock Point Title wrapped up going in to the final night at State Park Speedway and his fourth place finish sent him home with the Championship.

In front of the 76, Nicholas Erickson Jr. grabbed the early lead and held on for the first eight laps. That's when Mike Kasparek took the lead. Behind Kasparek and Erickson, Jake Capek worked his way to the front. Capek looked outside for second and took the spot with 10 laps to go and then three laps later pressured Kasparek or the lead. The two raced side by side for two laps before Capek cleared and hung on to take the checkered flag. Capek wins the feature and Volm the title.

The Mini-Mod Championship came down to the final race of the year. Phil Malouf led Chad Dietsche by just one point heading in to the final race of the season.

It was John Lietz who jumped out in to the early lead in the Snap-On Mini Mod feature. Behind the leaded, Dale Louze made a charge to the front. He moved in to second with 16 laps to go and took the lead with 10 to go.

With Louze up front all eyes were on the 29 of Dietsche and 32 of Malouf. Dietsche worked his way up to the second spot with under five laps to go, while Malouf hung back in fourth spot.

Louze held on or the win with Dietsche second, Kevin Eckes third, and Malouf fourth. That gave the State Park Speedway overall point title to Dietsche, but the Snap-On Mini-Mod title, which is combined with Golden Sands Speedway, to Malouf. Malouf wins a tool box courtesy of Snap-On Tools and Dietsche claims the State Park Speedway Championship.

TIM SAUTER EARNS FIRST WIN OF 2011 SEASON

Ryan Hinner also grabs first win at SPS in 2011 in Super Stock Feature
Wausau, WI – Thursday night could not have been any more perfect for Tim Sauter.  In a race deemed the Kocourek 75, Sauter, driver of the Kocourek sponsored Chevy to victory lane for the first time in the 2011 season.

Cardell Potter jumped out to the early lead in the 75-lap Super Late Model feature and held the top spot for nearly the first 25 laps.  That’s when Sauter made his move.  The #99 looked to the outside and then cleared for the lead with 55 laps to go.

As Sauter stretched his lead the racing heated up behind him.  Fast qualifier Neil KNoblock, who started 9th, worked his way up to third with 48 laps to go.  Right behind Knoblock, current SPS point leader Mark Mackesy worked his way forward and in to the fourth spot with 37 laps to go.
Knoblock and Cardell Potter were in a side by side battle for second when the caution flew with 31 laps to go.  That tightened up the field and erased Sauter’s lead.

But the #99 Kocourek Chevy got a good restart and grabbed the lead again.  Mackesy, who had been charging to the front, made the pass on Potter to claim the second spot with 28 laps to go.  Knoblock, who was shuffled back on the restart, had to work his way towards the front again, going from 5th back up to third in 11 laps.

Mackesy closed the gap on Sauter and with eight laps to go the two were nose to tail.  The caution flag flew with four laps to go setting the stage for a great finish.

Sauter grabbed the lead on the restart, but the 12 of Mackesy was right behind.  Mackesy looked outside for the lead as the white flag flew, but Sauter held off the charge to pick up a win on his sponsor’s night.  Knoblock finished third, Potter fourth and Jason Weinkauf fifth.

The super stock race saw more lead changes Thursday night than possibly all season.  Lyle Nowak jumped out to the early lead and held it for the first seven laps.  After a caution, Ryan Hinner grabbed the lead on the restart, but just one lap later Nowak reclaimed the top spot.
Hinner continued to press and looked inside for the lead with nine laps to go and cleared for the lead the next lap.

Mike Gwidt worked his way in to the third position seven laps in to the race and held steady in that position until the final two laps.  Gwidt challenged Nowak for the second spot with just two laps to go, but as Hinner took the checkered flag, Nowak came home second and Gwidt third.

James Annala acquired the early lead in the pure stock feature.  Five laps in to the 20 lap race, Kyle Gennett looked outside Annala for the lead.  The two raced side by side for the top spotb for six laps, when Gennett finally grabbed the spot and held on for his first win of the 2011 season.  Bradley Conant finished third, Travis Volm fourth, and Nicholas Erickson Jr. fifth.

Chad Dietsche put on a show in the Snap-On Mini Mod feature.  The 29 car grabbed the early lead and never looked back.  Adam Eckes finished second, Robert Dalsky third, Dale Louze fourth, and Phil Malouf fifth.

Mark Mackesy Wins Third Race of Season

Two first time winners in support divisions
Wausau, WI - Mark Mackesy earns the State Park Speedway hat trick, winning his third race of the year.  "Last year I didn't win a race at State Park Speedway," says Mackesy, "So I was pretty excited to win the first week. Then to win the ASA race and to win again tonight is just awesome."

Mackesy, who timed in tenth, started the race from the third position and wasted no time getting to the front.  M.G. Gajewski jumped out to the early lead, but just four laps in it was the white #12 that took over the top spot.

Ten laps in to the race the caution flew as the 76 of Jason Weinkauf went through the infield in turn one.  Gajewski, who got a great restart on the outside, battled side by side with Mackesy for the lead before the 12 reclaimed the top spot.

Behind the leaders Tim Sauter worked his way towards the front and 20 lap in, took the second spot from Gajewski and set his sights on the leader Mackesy.

As Mackesy continued to hold a steady lead and Sauter held strong in second, there was plenty of other racing inside the top five.  With 47 laps to go Burton Brown claimed the third spot from Gajewski, but it didn't last long.   Just one lap later Mark Eswein got around Brown for the spot.

Fast qualifier Neil Knoblock continued to march forward from his 11th starting position and found himself within the top five, looking for fourth, with under 20 laps to go.

But no one was able to catch Mackesy as he distanced himself from the rest of the field to visit Buffalo Wild Wings Victory Lane for the third time this year.  Sauter came home second, Eswein third, Knoblock fourth, and Brown fifth.

In the super stock race Mike Gwidt found victory lane for the first time this year.  Lyle Nowak claimed the early lead, but Gwidt wasted no time chasing him down.  Gwidt's 25 looked inside, then finally used the outside lane to take the lead with nine laps to go and held on to take the checkered flag.

The Pure Stock division found another newbie in Buffalo Wild Wing Victory Lane.  Nick Erickson Jr. grabbed the lead early and never looked back picking up his first win of the year.

To say there were fireworks in the Snap-On Mini Mod race would be an understatement.  Just seven laps in to the race the 22 of Greg Blount had issues in turn four, collected point leader Adam Eckes and another car, and hit the wall hard.  Both Bount's car and Eckes' were taken off the track on a flat bed.  Eckes and Blount exchanged heated words on the track before heading off.

After the restart Dale Louze took the lead.  He withstood a late race challenge from Chad Dietsche to grab his second win of the season.
