Adams, Kisling. Leer, Kesan, Richards and Voeltz Crowned Season Champs at Eagle Valley

August 29, 2011

By Gene Harmelink

Sunday, August 28, marked the end of the 2011 race season at Eagle Valley Speedway. The season championship races were presented by Leinenkugels. Krug’s Towing threw in prize money for lucky fans that chose the winning drivers.

In WISSOTA/Amsoil action, Kevin Adams was crowned champion in the Modified Division, Shane Kisling in the Super Stocks, Matt Leer in the Midwest Modifieds, and Jay Kesan in the Street Stocks. In the Eagle Valley Divisions, George Richards reigns as champion in the Pure Stocks, while Brent Voleltz won the title in the Hornet Division.

The Eagle Valley Hornets were up prior to intermission for their feature with Eric Schultz and Scott Westaby on row one. Schultz was the early leader with Westaby in second.

By mid-race, Schultz still led, but Brent Voleltz was on the move and threatening to overtake the lead, with Rocky Kempe running third, Westaby in fourth and Jay Welk in fifth.

With five laps to go, Voeltz made his move for the lead, dropping Schultz to second. For a couple of laps Voeltz led by the narrowest of margins, but in the end was victorious, taking home the championship trophy in his J & J Embroidery and Design-sponsored car. Rounding out the top five were Schultz, Kempe, Welk, and Westaby.

After the intermission was completed, the Midwest Modifieds took to the track with Shane Halopka and Cory Crapser leading the way. Halopka was fastest off the line, taking the lead by the end of lap one.

The only caution of the race occurred after lap four when the car of Ben Schultz spun into the infield as he came out of turn two. When racing resumed, Halopka again took the lead, but you could tell he was up to his neck in alligators as Matt Leer and Crapser did their best to steal the lead.

When the cars came to the flag stand after the completion of lap six, Leer had edged past Halopka for the lead and Crapser was challenging for second, as he ran third.

Halfway through the 20-lap feature, Leer still led and was pulling away from the field. Halopka ran second at this point with Crapser following right behind him while Zach Manley and Clark Swartz fought for fourth.

With five to go, Leer still led, but Halopka had made up some distance. Crapser, Manley and Jake Smith followed closely behind.

In the end, it was Leer winning the season championship while getting his 19th win of the season in his White City Glass-sponsored car. Halopka, Crapser, Manley and Josh Smith made up the rest of the top five.

In Super Stock action, Shane Kisling and Darrel Hazelton ran side-by-side for the start of their feature with Kisling quickly grabbing the top spot.

Tommy Richards was not about to let Kisling run away with another win and put pressure on Kisling. As the first ten laps were being contested, Richards got to within a car length or closer to Kisling on several occasions, but each time Kisling seemed to be able to find the horsepower to burst ahead as he ran the high groove and Richards ran low.

By mid-race Kisling still led, Richards dropped back a bit and was challenged by Eric Olson who ran the high groove and then the low in an attempt to get the better of Richards. Meanwhile Darrel Hazelton, Wayne Dean and Jesse Redetzke had an excellent fight going for fourth.

With five laps to go, Kisling moved a bit further away from the field, Richards hung on to second and Olson continued running high and low, searching for an opportunity to gain ground. Dean won the battle for fourth and Hazelton settled into fifth.

In the end it was Kisling winning the track championship and getting his thirteenth feature win of the 2011 season at Eagle Valley Speedway in his Moberg Electric sponsored car. Richards finished second, Olson third, Dean fourth, and Redetzke fifth.

If the fans had not seen enough fast and furious action up to this point they were about to get that satisfaction when the Modfieds took to the track with Kevin Adams and Jesse Glenz leading the way for their feature. Glenz was the leader as the cars completed the first lap with David Baxter giving chase.

Baxter was able to take the lead by the end of lap two, with Glenz dropping to second, Adams running third, Mark Gerth in fourth and Jimmy Mars in fifth. Baxter continued to lead and by the end of lap five, Adams had moved into second, sending Glenz to third.

As the cars rounded reached the flag stand at the end of lap seven, Baxter and Adams were side-by-side with Gerth in third, Glenz in fourth and Mars in fifth.

Lap eight saw Adams take the lead, relegating Baxter to second. The only caution of the feature occurred after lap eleven when Curt Myers made contact with the turn one wall. Myers was able to continue and once again Adams shot to the lead.

With five laps to go Adams was on cruise control and pulling away from the field as Gerth continued to run second, Baxter ran third, Mars ran fourth and Clayton Wagamon moved into the fifth spot.

By race end Adams had won his 28th race of the season and his third of the weekend to secure the track championship in his Quality Cleaners-sponsored Modified. Gerth, Baxter, Mars and Wagamon rounded out the top five.

Jay Kesan and Cody Kummer led the Street Stocks to the green flag for their feature with Kummer taking top honors by the end of lap one. A caution after lap one for a spinning Mike Knudtson realigned the field with Kummer once again in the lead.

Kesan was on the move and in his typical end of the season prime, shot to the lead by the end of lap three, with Kummer settling in for second, but still threatening to reclaim the lead. Further back Adams Soltis, Travis Hazelton and Rick Weir battled for third.

With half of the race in the books, Kesan still led, as Kummer, Soltis, Hazelton and Weir maintained their positions.

With five laps to go, Carolyn Nosser’s and Mitchell Kesan’s tangled as they came out of turn two with Kesan’s car rolling. Kesan was alright, but his car and the Nosser car retired to the pits.

When racing resumed, Jay Kesan once again grabbed the lead, Kummer ran second, Soltis ran third, Hazelton was in fourth and Knudtson moved into the fifth spot.

As the checkered flag flew, Kesan had won his ninth feature of the year in his Ladysmith Auto Supply-sponsored car and had also won the Eagle Valley Street Stock championship. Rounding out the top five were Kummer, Soltis, Hazelton and Knudtson.

Up last were the Eagle Valley Pure Stocks with George Richards and Dalton Hazelton on the front row. Richards was quick to take the lead as Hazelton ran second.

With half of the race in, Richards still led, Hazelton still ran second, Jason Havel ran third, Todd Roshell was fourth and Brandon Lofgren ran fifth.

With two to go and Richards in the lead, Hazelton continued to run second, Havel was in third, Bill Skoug was fourth and Roshell ran fifth.

The final checkered of the 2011 race season flew and Richards was the final track champion of the season getting his 13th win of the year in his Richard’s Repair-sponsored car. Hazelton, Havel, Roshell and Lucas Kallenbach, who put on a late charge, rounded out the top five.

Jerry and Janis Weigel would like to thank all of the racers and fans who attended Eagle Valley during the 2011 racing season. Thanks also go out to all of the track sponsors, bike sponsors, and anyone else who helped to contribute in a monetary way to the overall race program. Thanks also go out to all the workers who helped to keep the track running smoothly each and every Sunday night.

Although, the regular race season is done, Eagle Valley Speedway has one remaining event on Saturday, September 10, when there will be an Enduro race.

Eagle Valley Hosts The Tenth Annual Lonnie Leu Memorial Race

August 21, 2011

By Gene Harmelink

In honor of a fallen racer, Eagle Valley Speedway in Jim Falls, WI, hosted the tenth annual Lonnie Leu Memorial Race on Sunday, August 21. The race night also marked the last track points’ night of the season.

Winners included Kevin Adams in his WISSOTA/Amsoil Modified. This win marked the third straight time Adams scored a win in the Lonnie Leu Memorial Race and it also was Adams 25th win of the 2011 race season. Shane Kisling also captured a win in his WISSOTA/Amsoil Super Stock, making it back-to-back wins for Kisling, as he tallied his 21st win of the race season.

In the WISSOTA/Amsoil Midwest Modified Division, Matt Leer drove to his second consecutive Lonnie Leu win and his third win overall in the Leu Memorial competition.

In the WISSOTA/Amsoil Street Stock Division, Jay Kesan picked up a win, making it Kesan’s eighth win of the year.

In the Eagle Valley Divisions, George Richards won his twelfth win of the year, as he won his third straight Leu Memorial Race.

In the Hornet Division, Rocky Kempe collected the winning prize, while Joe Provinzino picked up a win in his Mod 600.

The Eagle Valley Hornets ran their feature prior to intermission, with Jay Welk and Scott Westaby on the front row. It was Rocky Kempe, though, who shoot to an early lead from his third-place starting spot.

Kempe fought off early challenges from Welk and track point’s leader, Eric Schultz, but as the race progressed Kempe was able to put distance between himself and all challengers to take the win. The yearly points’ winner was Schultz.

After the intermission, the WISSOTA Super Stocks were up first with Shane Kisling and Eric Olson leading the way. Olson got a great start and took the lead by the end of lap one, but track point’s leader, Kisling, showed his strength early as he sent Olson to second by the end of lap two.

Kisling survived two cautions during the first half of the race and after caution secured the lead, he pulled away from the pack.

With four laps remaining, Kisling had marched away from the rest of the competitors to lead by eight or more car lengths. In the end, it was Kisling with the win in his Corner Country Store-sponsored car. Olson, Brad Kisling, Terry Kroening and Wayne Dean rounded out the top five. This win also put the cap on Kisling’s track points’ lead.

Nick Koehler and Shane Halopka were on the front row for the start of the WISSOTA Midwest Modified feature, with Halopka being the early leader. Halopka led the first two laps of the feature, but track points’ leader, Matt Leer, was on the move from third.

As the cars passed under the flag stand for the end of lap three, Leer had successfully made the pass for the lead, sending Halopka to second as Clark Swartz moved into the third spot and Koehler ran fourth and Alex Van Natta ran fifth.

With half of the feature in the books, Leer continued to lead, Halopka continued to run second followed by Josh Smith, Cory Crapser and Clark Swartz.

With two laps remaining, Leer was still in the lead and putting some distance on the field as Smith and Halopka battled for second, with Crapser and Swartz fighting it out for third.

In the end it was Leer with the win in his Jiffy Biffy-sponsored car. Halopka, Smith, Crapser and Swartz made up the rest of the top five. This insured Leer’s lead in track points.

The WISSOTA Modified feature was next with Jay Richardson and Kevin Adams sharing the front row. Adams immediately grabbed the lead and proceeded to also put distance between his car and the rest of the field with Mike Anderson, Dave Cain, and Jay Richardson engaged in a fight for second.

This feature ran without caution, as Adams motored away from everyone. Meanwhile Cain ran a distance second, as Nayes and Anderson dueled for third.

With five laps to go, Adams began lapping the field, Cain continued in second, Nayes ran third, Anderson ran fourth and Dave Baxter ran fifth.

In the end it was Adams with the win in this fast and furious race in his CRC Component-sponsored car. Cain, Anderson, Nayes, and Baxter rounded out the top five. This win also sealed the track points for Adams.

Jay Kesan and Carolyn Nosser led the WISSOTA Street Stocks to the green flag for the start of their feature, with Kesan rocketing to the lead and Mike Knudtson moved into second.

With five laps in and following a caution for a spinning Knudtson, Kesan continued to lead with Doug Wojcik running second. Nick Wojcik followed in third as Cody Kummer and Shaun Mann rounded out the top five.

At the midway point, Kesan still led, Nick Wojcik moved into second, his brother, Doug, ran third and Kummer and Mann held onto their spots.

With the laps winding down, Kesan continued to lead and the others in the top five remained as they were. In the end, it was Kesan taking his eighth win of the year in his Bruce Auto Repair-sponsored car. This win was frosting on the cake for the points’ lead for Kesan. Rounding out the top five were Nick Wojcik, Doug Wojcik, Shaun Mann and Travis Hazelton, who had passed Kummer late in the race.

The Eagle Valley Speedway Pure Stocks were up next with Mike Schuebel and George Richards on the front row. Richards made it look easy as he motored away early for the lead. Behind Richards, Todd Roshell, Schuebel, and Brandon Lofgren battled for second.

By the middle of the feature, Richards had established a substantial lead as Roshell, Lofgren and Jason Havel fought it out for second.

With two laps to go and Richards in a lock for the win--barring mechanical failure, Roshell and Havel duked it out for second, as Lofgren and Schuebel did the same for third.

In the end, it was Richards with his twelfth win of the year to secure the points’ lead in his NAPA Auto Parts-sponsored car.

The Mod 600s were up last with Curt Luhmann and Greg Wohletz leading the way. It was Joe Provinsino, though, coming from fourth to take the lead as he made an excellent quick move to the outside early in the first lap.

As Provinsino cruised away, Luhmann and Wohletz were left to run for second, as Bill Baures and John Griffin were left to fight it out for third.

In the end, it was Provinsino taking the win in his Joe Provo Racewear-sponsored car. Luhmann, Wohletz, Baures and Griffin rounded out the top five.

Next week Sunday, August 28, marks the end of the regular race season when Eagle Valley hosts the season championship races presented by Lenenkugel’s.

The track events conclude on Saturday, September 10, when Eagle Valley Speedway presents an Enduro race. The previously announced IRA Sprint race is cancelled.

Southworth Chevrolet Races and Kid’s Night a Huge Success at Eagle Valley Speedway

August 14, 2011

By Gene Harmelink

On what was a perfect weather night, Southworth Chevrolet, along with some additional help from Krug Towing, presented the races at Eagle Valley Speedway on a night when the track would prove to provide the best racing of the race season.

Winners in the WISSOTA/Amsoil divisions were Kevin Adams in his Modified, Shane Kisling in his Super Stock, Josh Smith in his Midwest Modified, and Nick Wojcik in his Street Stock. In the Eagle Valley divisions, George Richards won in his Pure Stock, while Eric Schultz got yet another win in his Hornet.

The Hornets ran their feature prior to intermission with Jay Welk and Eric Schultz on the front row. Schultz got a good start and was the leader as the cars rounded the track for the completion of the first lap.

With half of the race in the books, Schultz continued to lead and showed his strength one more time as he motored away from the rest of the competition. Meanwhile, Welk, Brent Voeltz, and Scott Westaby had a good battle for second.

With the laps ticking away, Schultz put more distance between himself and Voeltz, who had won the fight for second. In the end, Schultz picked up his eleventh win of the year.

Intermission provided an opportunity for kids of all ages to go down on the track to look at the cars and to meet the drivers. The drivers signed the checkered flags of the kids and presented each of them with various kinds of racing memorabilia and candy.

With the intermission completed, racing resumed with what would proved to be the most exciting Midwest Modified feature of the year.

On the front row, Aaron Dunbar and Nick Koehler were set to do battle as the green flag flew. An early caution occurred prior to the completion of lap one when Dunbar’s car experienced loss of power as the green flag dropped. With Dunbar slowing, everyone missed the slowing Dunbar car, with the exception of Brad Hudson. Dunbar and Hudson both retired to the pits early and racing resumed with Koehler securing the lead.

With half of the laps in, Koehler continued to lead, as Jake Smith, Josh Smith, Cory Crapser and Matt Leer fought it out for second.

With nine laps in, Leer spun out coming out of turn one. When racing resumed, and Leer at the back of the pack, Koehler once again shot to the lead, this time with Josh Smith in hot pursuit, followed by Clark Swartz, who had started ninth.

With three laps to go, Koehler, Swartz and Smith ran three wide as they raced the backstretch, turns three and four and the front stretch. As these three raced side-by-side, Leer, who was in contention for the top five, slowed and pulled into the pits allowing Jake Smith and Alex Van Natta to join the race for the top five.

As the white flag flew, Josh Smith was on the move for the top spot with Swartz also edging out Koehler. As the checkered flew, Josh Smith came across the line first to get his second win of the year in his Curt Manufacturing sponsored car, with Swartz, Koehler, Jake Smith and Alex Van Natta rounding out the top five.

With that exciting feature completed, the Super Stocks arrived on the track with Brad Edington and Darrel Hazelton on the front row. Hazelton was quickest, taking the lead by the end of lap one with Edington giving chase, followed by Kevin Hager, Rick Hallquist and Wayne Dean.

A caution for a spinning David Pospyhalla realigned the field. When racing resumed, Wayne Dean moved up quickly from fifth to challenge Hazelton for the lead, but Hazelton would have no part of it as he picked up the pace, holding Dean off.

With ten laps of the twenty lap feature complete, Dean ducked under Hazelton and got the top spot with Shane Kisling, Eric Olson, and Edington fighting it out for third.

A caution at the end of lap twelve for a spinning Jason Quarders realigned the field one more time. During this caution Dean’s motor compartment erupted in steam from an overheated motor and a blown radiator hose. Dean pulled into the pits, his night done.

When racing resumed, Kisling saw his chance and quickly made his move to take the lead and the rest is history, or was it? Kisling soon lead by three or four car lengths, but there would be challenges.

Eric Olson, who was running second, had a plan and he moved high on the track as Kisling hugged the bottom. That plan worked great and Olson got to within a car length, but with three to go Kisling also went high on the track and once again stretched his lead.

By race end, Kisling had won his 19th feature race of the year in his Pro Auto Glass sponsored car with Olson, Hazelton, Edington and Hager rounding out the top five.

Leading the Modifieds to Flagman Jeff Eisner’s starting flag were Luke Schilling and Steve Hallquist, with Schilling showing early promise as he led the first four laps, but Mark Hanson was on the move.

By the end of lap five, Hanson made his move for the lead sending Schilling to second as Jesse Glenz and Kevin Adams fought it out for third, dropping Hazelton to fifth.

Hanson looked as if he might have the feature win in his grasp, but by lap 14 Adams had passed Glenz for second and was pouring on the coals.

With five to go, Hanson still led by one or two car lengths and Adams ran second leading Glenz by one or two car lengths. Back a bit, but still seemingly in contention, Schilling and Jay Richardson ran fourth and fifth.

With two to go, Hanson ran high on the track and Adams ran low. As they rounded turn four of the checkered flag lap Adams got even with Hanson. The two ran side-by-side for much of the lap.

As the cars passed under the flag stand, for the checkered, Adams nipped Hanson by inches to take his 24th win of the season in his Trace Racing sponsored car. Hanson, Glenz, Schilling and Richardson rounded out the top five.

The Street Stocks were up next with Carolyn Nosser and Matt Wolfe on the front row. This race was off to a shaky start as a number of cars got involved with each other as they passed under the flag stand for what should have been the end of lap one.

A complete restart resulted with Adam Soltis being sent to the back. Once racing resumed, Nick Wojcik made a couple of bold, but smooth moves to go from fourth to first.

With Wojcik in the lead, Travis Hazelton, Jay Kesan and Doug Wojcik challenged each other for second with Hazelton being the winner for the next four laps.

As Nick Wojcik continued to lead, Doug Wojcik moved up to run second. Brother, Nick, continued to lead and began to build a substantial lead as Soltis moved into third followed by Cody Kummer and Kesan.

With the laps winding down, the Wojcik brothers continued to put on a show for the top spot. With two to go, Doug got to within one to two car lengths of his brother, Nick. In spite of the fact that Doug put up a great effort, it was not enough and Nick went on to win his fifth feature of the year in his Justice Brothers sponsored car. Rounding out the top five were Doug Wojcik, Soltis, Kesan and Kummer.

The final feature of the night saw Mike Schuebel and Danny Westlie take the green first for the start of the Pure Stock feature.

Schuebel was extremely quick off the line shooting to the lead and leading the first five laps of the feature. Unfortunately for Schuebel, who had built up a nice margin, there were three successive cautions after lap five.

On the eventual successful restart, George Richards made his patented restart move to take the lead after running third. Richards survived a couple of more restarts and the race was shortened by a couple of laps due to time constraints, which were due in part to a rollover occurring during lap nine. Bryan Ciolkosz rolled in turn four. Ciolkosz was unhurt, but his car needed to be towed to the pits.

As the shortened race neared completion, Richards pulled away from the field to take his eleventh feature win of the year in his Krause Signs sponsored car. Rounding out the top five were Brandon Lofgren, Dalton Hazelton, Jeremy Dahl and Dustin Doughty.

Next Sunday, August 21, Eagle Valley hosts the tenth annual Lonnie Leu Memorial race. This race night promises to be a good one. With the track being at its prime for the year, the racing should be fantastic!

Season championship races will be held on August 28, and then two more events will cap off the racing season at Eagle Valley Speedway. The IRA Sprints will be making their second appearance of the year on September 11, one day after Eagle Valley hosts an Enduro race.

Kyle Ryba Memorial a Huge Success

Eagle Valley Speedway

By Gene Harmelink

Tim’s Automotive and Machine, with enhanced pay help from Bob Seckora Coldwell Banker, many fans who contributed, and the Ryba family presented the "Kyle Ryba Memorial" races at Eagle Valley Speedway on Sunday night.

No extreme heat, no threat of rain, a nice crowd and an excellent field of cars, along with a smooth and fast racing surface were all contributors to an exciting night of racing which saw WISSOTA/Amsoil drivers Kevin Adams, Wayne Dean, Matt Leer, and Jay Kesan pick up feature wins. In addition to that, George Richards and Eric Schultz picked up wins in the Eagle Valley divisions.

The Eagle Valley Hornets were up first for their feature which was run prior to intermission. On the front row were Brent Voeltz and Eric Schultz, taking an early lead, in search of his tenth straight Eagle Valley win.

Schultz has been dominate all year long and Sunday night was no exception. Despite the best efforts of all contenders including: Voeltz, Rocky Kempe, Scott Westaby, and others. Schultz once again pulled away from all his challengers to take his tenth win of the race season.

With intermission and a bit of track grooming out of the way, the WISSOAT/Amsoil Super Stocks took to the track with Mike Keller and Eric Olson leading the way. Keller was the early leader, leading the first six laps of the feature as Wayne Dean, Olson, Steve Thomas and Shane Kisling battled for second.

It was during lap seven that Dean made a pass for the lead in turn two and then survived a restart for the race lead, after the only caution of the race, just after the completion of lap seven.

By the midway point of the feature, Dean was still in control and Kisling had secured second as Keller, Dave Mass and Olson contended for third.

Kisling got his car bumper up on Dean’s car’s rear bumper on several occasions, but Dean managed to hold him off and by lap seventeen Dean led by five or six car lengths.

With two laps to go, it was Dean on cruise control as Kisling faded a bit, followed by Mass, Keller and Olson.

This was Dean’s first feature win of the season in a car that has been getting progressively better and better and a driver who was more patient than he has been in the past.

The WISSOTA/Amsoil Midwest Modifieds were up next with Cory Crapser and Matt Leer showing the way. Leer was quickest off the line and immediately showed his dominance as he pulled away from the field.

Three nearly successive cautions after lap seven reset the field and once again Leer pulled away as Shane Halopka, Nick Koehler, Crapser, and Josh Smith fought it out for second.

It was just after lap nine that Koehler spun in turn two, collecting the cars of Smith and Joe Chaplin. None of the three were able to continue and racing resumed with Leer once again in the lead with Halopka giving chase.

Another caution after lap ten for a spinning Grant Southworth gave Halopka another hope that he might be able to catch Leer, but Leer once again pulled away.

As the white flag flew, Halopka went high and Leer stayed low. As the cars rounded turn four to take the checkered flag, Halopka made his move, but Leer nipped him by a few feet to take the win, his 14th feature win of the year.

With that exciting race in the books, the WISSOTA/Amsoil Modifieds took to the track with Jesse Glenz and Steve Hallquist on the front row. Glenz had a great start and led the first three laps of the race, but Kevin Adams was on the move from sixth and by the end of lap four Adams led.

Once Adams had secured the lead, the race was for second, barring a rare mistake by Adams or a mechanical failure. Fans were not going to be denied excitement as Glenz and Mark Gerth put on a heck of a show for second as Mark Hanson and Mike Anderson fought it out for third.

Adams made no mistakes and had no failures and earned his 22nd feature win of the year. Gerth prevailed over Glenz for second and Anderson won the fight with Hanson to take fourth. Hanson failed to scale, so Dave Mass was credited with fifth.

The WISSOTA/Amsoil Street Stocks were up next with Sam Frankhauser and Jay Kesan sharing the front row. Kesan showed quickness early, taking the lead with Frankhauser running in second, as Cody Kummer and Jason Lang vied for third.

With half of the feature complete, Kesan continued to lead, as Frankhauser and Doug Wojcik, who had come from seventh, fought it out for second. At that point Lang ran fourth and Kummer ran fifth.

With two laps to go, Kesan was in command, leading by seven or eight car lengths as Frankhauser and Wojcik continued to fight for second and Shaun Mann moved in to secure fourth after he started twelfth. Unfortunately, Lang pulled up lame and drove off into the pits relinquishing his spot in fifth to Kummer.

Kesan went on to win his sixth feature of the 2011 season with Frankhauser, Wojcik, Mann and Kummer rounding out the top five.

The final feature of the night belonged to the Eagle Valley Pure Stocks with Pat Smith and Josh Rudd on the front row. Rudd was the early leader with Smith settling into the second spot.

Five laps into the feature, there were three successive cautions, and when racing resumed that break was all George Richards needed to give him the opportunity to take him to the lead by the time lap seven was completed.

With Richards in control, all the rest of the field could hope for was a slip-up by Richards, but that didn’t happen and Richards went on for his tenth feature win of the season.

The next big event at Eagle Valley Speedway will be the Eve of Destruction on Saturday, August 13—this will be a fun time for the whole family with “smash and crash” races, a demo derby, and many other races sure to please the crowd.

Sunday night, August 14, regular racing will resume when the races will be presented by Southworth Chevrolet. This will also be kids’ night and the kids and kids at heart will be able to meet the drivers on the track during intermission.

Other events to note on your racing schedule include the Lonnie Leu Memorial Race on August 21 and the return of the IRA Sprints on September 11.

Adams Picks Up Win 21 and Kisling Collects Win 17 at Eagle Valley Speedway

Jim Falls, WI, July 31, 2011

By Gene Harmelink

On yet another warm and humid summer night, Eagle Valley Speedway along with WAXX 104.5 FM and Quality Propane presented five exciting divisions of racing to the appreciation of the fans in attendance.

The addition of more new clay this week, with more to be added in the coming weeks, provided a fast and smooth surface allowing for more grooves of racing and more passing.

The Hornet feature was the first of the night with the race taking place prior to intermission. Even though the number of cars was not up to par with previous weeks and Eric Schultz dominated, the race for second place was a good one.

As Schultz motored away from everyone else, Scott Westaby and Jay Welk had a spirited battle for second with Westaby being the ultimate winner of the second spot.

The WISSOTA/Amsoil Midwest Modifieds were the first division on the track after intermission with Alex Van Natta and Zach Manley sharing the front row.

Van Natta was quick off the line and led this caution-free feature for the first seven laps as Manley hounded him for the first six and Shane Halopka moved up to replace Manley by the end of lap seven.

With eight laps in, Halopka made a nice move to take the lead, sending Van Natta to second, followed by Manley, Matt Leer, and Josh Smith.

With five laps to go, Halopka stretched his lead with Leer moving up to run second. Meanwhile, Van Natta dropped to third, followed by Manley and Smith.

Halopka finished the weekend with a win, his second feature win of the weekend and his fifth for the season, in his Bob Seckora, Coldwell/Banker-sponsored car.

The WISSOTA/Amsoil Super Stocks were up next, with Brad Kisling and Terry Kroening on the front row. Kisling led the first lap, but Wayne Dean coming from fourth, led the next two laps as Kisling settled in for second.

The only caution of the feature came after lap three when Terry Kroening’s car made hard contact with the wall as he exited turn three. Kroening retired to the pits and the race continued with Dean going high on the track and Shane Kisling going low.

Kisling had started eighth and was on the move and by the end of lap four had stolen the lead, sending Dean to second, followed by Eric Olson, Brad Kisling, and Tommy Richards.

As the laps wound down, Kisling pulled away from the field as Olson moved into second. Despite the best efforts of the others, Kisling was able to pick up his eighth straight Eagle Valley win, which was also his tenth win overall at Eagle Valley and his seventeenth win of the year in his division.

With Bob Wood and Bryan Nayes on the front row, the WISSOTA/Amsoil Modifieds accepted the green from Flagman Jeff Eisner for the start of the feature.

Nayes was off like a rocket leading the first lap and the next five laps as Wood and Mike Anderson fought it out for second with Anderson winning that fight. In addition to the fight going on for second, Jay Richardson and Kevin Adams dueled for the third spot with Adams eventually winning that one.

Seven laps into the race, Adams had completed his move to the front to take the lead, stretching his lead to seven or eight car lengths by the end of lap nine.

Mike Anderson was on the move as he hugged the bottom while Adams used the top of the track to continue to lead.

With five laps to go, Adams had what would prove to be an insurmountable lead taking the win at the end of lap twenty in his CRC Components-sponsored car. This win was Adams 21st win of the season.

Jason Lang and Adam Soltis led the WISSOTA/Amosil Street Stocks to the line with Lang taking the early lead a Doug Wojcik moved up from third to take second.

Wojcik didn’t waste any time as he quickly moved past Lang to take the lead by the end of lap two. Lang dropped to second, followed by Soltis, Jay Kesan and Mike Knudtson.

With five laps in, Wojcik had a firm grip on first with Kesan moving into second as Lang and Soltis swapped spots for third. Meanwhile Cody Kummer was moving up from seventh to grab a spot in the top five.

With five laps to go, Wojcik had established a dominating lead while Kesan, Soltis, Kummer and Lang continued to fight it out for the other spots in the top five.

Wojcik went on to get his seventh feature win of the year in his Johnson Graphics-sponsored car.

The Eagle Valley Pure Stocks were up last in what would prove to be a very interesting and exciting feature interrupted just one time for a caution when a car lost a muffler.

Kolby Keih and Robert Wahlstrom led the field to the green for the start of the feature with Keih leading by the end of lap one as Wahlstrom ran second with Jay Folz, Dalton Hazelton, and Jason Havel vying for third.

Keih led the first seven laps of the feature and was challenged by Hazelton for five of those laps. It was at the end of lap eight that Hazelton made the move to secure the top spot.

From that point on, the only serious challenge came from Havel who got his car close to making the pass on Hazelton several times. Hazelton, though, was able to hold Havel at bay, taking his first feature win of the year in his Dirt Digger Race Car-sponsored car.

Next week will end up being a nice pay day for not only the winner of each feature, but for others in the top five as well. Bob Seckora, Coldwell/Banker has matched individual contributions of fans to increase the purse for next week’s races which will be sponsored by Tim’s Automotive. See Eagle Valley’s ad in All The Dirt for the enhanced payouts.

Also, keep August 13 open on your entertainment schedule as Eagle Valley presents the Eve Of Destruction with fireworks to follow.

Anderson Brothers, Kisling, and Kummer Help Eagle Valley Celebrate Their Anniversary

Jim Falls, WI, July 24, 2011

By Gene Harmelink

July 24, 2011 marked the tenth anniversary of ownership for Jerry and Janis Weigel of Eagle Valley Speedway and new clay on the track proved to be something to celebrate, as well.

Mike Anderson picked up his 8th win of the year in his WISSOTA/Amsoil Modified and his brother Travis was a winner in his Midwest Modified. Joining the Anderson brothers in victory lane were Shane Kisling, picking up his 9th win at Eagle Valley Speedway and his 15th WISSOTA/Amsoil win of the year. Cody Kummer picked up his third straight win at Eagle Valley Speedway in his WISSOTA/Amsoil Street Stock, while George Richards picked up his 9th win of the year in his Eagle Valley Pure Stock. Rounding out the wins for the night was Eric Schultz in his Eagle Valley Hornet, making it win number eight.

The Eagle Valley Hornets ran their feature prior to intermission with Ryan Michels and Eric Schultz sharing the front row. It was Jay Welk, though, who would be the early leader, leading just lap one. With two laps in the books, Schultz powered ahead of Welk for the lead and never looked back as he took the win in his Kadinger’s Salvage-sponsored car. Finishing second was Welk, with Jerry Zebro in third, Scott Westaby in fourth and Paul Monpas in fifth.

The Super Stock feature was the first after intermission with Terry Kroening and Mike Keller taking the green first from Flagman Jeff Eisner. Kroening showed early promise as he led the first two laps, but Shane Kissling put on an early charge, coming from fifth to take the lead by the end of lap three.

Despite the best efforts of Kroening and Tommy Richards, who had started fourth, Kisling motored away to take the win in his Toys Scrap and Salvage-sponsored car. Kroening settled for second, Richards for third, and Eric Olson and Mike Keller had an interesting battle for fourth and fifth, with Olson winning the fight for fourth.

Up next were the Midwest Modifieds with Grant Southworth and Matt Leer on the front row. The drivers on the front row didn’t know it, but Travis Anderson had a plan as he shot from seventh to first with just one lap in the books. Anderson led the first eight laps of the race, as Josh Smith, who had started fifth, and Leer fought the good fight for second.

Leer was able to take the lead by the end of lap nine, sending Anderson to second as Cory Crapser replaced Smith in the third spot. Meanwhile Dalton Yohnk moved up to fifth from eighth.

A caution after then laps for a spinning Crapser in turn four sent Crapser to the back. As Crapser moved to the rear, and to the surprise of everyone, Leer exited to the pits, yielding the lead once again to Anderson.

Anderson was not to be denied as he completed the rest of the race in the number one spot, taking the win in his Twist and Tangles-sponsored car. Smith finished second, Yohnk third, Crapser managed to get back to fourth and Shane Halopka picked up the fifth spot.

The Modifieds were up next with Mike Anderson and Jay Richardson sharing the honors of being in the front row. Anderson showed his muscle early as he shot to the lead, leading laps one through nine, with Kevin Adams running side by side for a time.

Just as things were getting interesting between Anderson and Adams, Bryan Nayes spun out as he came out of turn one. With the field reset, Anderson once again took the lead, stretched the lead to three or four car lengths and was off for what appeared to be a win. Adams had other ideas and things were going along well as he closed with a car length and then a half car length with just five laps to go.

Once again, just as things were heating up between Anderson and Adams, Adams did his Cape Canaveral impersonation as his car left the ground after contact with a hole that had developed between turns three and four. Adams’ car came down with a thud, a butt breaker to be perfectly honest, and he lost more than several spots as Anderson drove off.

With three laps to go, Adams got to within one car length, but Anderson had the momentum and went on for his eighth win of the year in his Anderson Auto Repair-sponsored car. Adams took second, Nayes came back to take third, Dave Baxter finished fourth, and Jay Richardson was credited with fifth.

Mike Knudtson and Adam Soltis shared the front row for the start of the Street Stock feature with Knudtson taking the early lead, leading the first six laps until Soltis’ car came to a halt in turn four with a flat tire, causing the first caution of the race.

With Soltis back on the track and in the back of the pack after a tire change, Knudtson once again was off to the lead with Cody Kummer, Jay Kesan, and Nick Wojcik giving chase. At this point It looked good for Knudtson but Kummer, who has been on a terror of late, was right on his tail, making the pass with seven laps to go.

Just after the completion of lap ten, Soltis spun coming out of turn one and back to the rear of the pack he went one more time. When racing resumed, Kummer was tasting victory as he motored away from the pack, leading at times by seven or eight car lengths.

In the end, Kummer had earned his third straight win at Eagle Valley speedway in his All Sports Sales and Service-sponsored car. Wojcik came home second, Knudtson hung on for third, Kesan for fourth, and Soltis managed to come back to secure fifth.

The last feature of the night was for the Eagle Valley Pure Stocks with Danny Westlie and Dustin Doughty showing the way. Doughty was the early leader as Rod Ryba came from fourth to run second and Pat Smith ran third.

Doughty led the first five laps, but George Richards was on the move from his eighth-place starting spot and he claimed first after the completion of lap six. Most of the action was up front in this feature, as Richards pulled away from the field for the win in his Napa Auto Parts-sponsored car. Doughty finished second, Smith third, Ryba fourth and Brandon Lofgren finished fifth.

Racing continues on Sunday, July 31, when WAXX 104.5 and Quality Propane will present the racing action.

The following week Tim’s Automotive presents the Kyle Ryba Memorial Race with additional help from Bob Seckora/Coldwell Banker and contributing fans. Seckora is matching dollar for dollar anyone contributing to the purse for the Ryba Memorial Race. The goal is to increase the total purse, not just the top pay. By the end of the race night on July 24, enough money had been contributed and matched to guarantee a $500 winner’s payout for the winner of the Super Stock and Midwest Modified feature on August 7. In addition, the payout farther down has also been increased. As additional funds are donated, other classes will be included. See Bob or make your contribution at next week’s races by going to the concession stand at Eagle Valley Speedway where contributions will be accepted. Let’s make this a great payout night for everyone—with your help it can be done!

The Valley Was Too Wet, Too Hot, and Too Humid at Jimtown

Eagle Valley Speedway, Jim Falls, WI

By Gene Harmelink

Due to the excessive rains on Friday (over three inches) and the oppressive heat and humidity, Jerry and Janis Weigel decided it was in the best interest of all parties, including themselves, the drivers, and the fans, to cancel the races for Sunday, July 17.

This was not a decision based on whim, as drivers and others were consulted as to their opinion on and all concerned felt the same way--that racing Sunday night would just not be a good idea.

The Weigels invite all of you to join them next week for another night of racing when the valley heats up--but, hopefully, not quite as much!

Adams, Leer, and Kummer Qualify For the ROC at Eagle Valley

July 10, 2011

By Gene Harmelink

Are we in Iowa? All the elements were there for a hot and humid Iowa night except for the pig manure smell as River Country Coop hosted, and Eagle Valley Speedway held its Race of Champions qualifier races on Sunday, July 10.

Qualifying for the Race of Champions in the WISSOTA/Amsoil Modified division was Kevin Adams who uncharacteristically also won his first and only feature of the weekend. Shane Kisling won his feature, but he previously was qualified in his WISSOTA/Amsoil Super Stock on Saturday night at Rice Lake Speedway.

Matt Leer qualified in his WISSOTA/Amsoil Midwest Modified and Cody Kummer did the same in his WISSOTA/Amsoil Street Stock. Also winning features on Sunday night were Jason Havel in his Eagle Valley Pure Stock and John Griffin in his Mod 600.

The Midwest Modifieds were the first division on the track for their feature with Matt Leer and Travis Anderson on the front row.

Leer grabbed the lead early as Anderson ran in second for the first two laps. A caution during what should have been lap three was called when Shane Halopka’s car got into the car of Cory Crapser. Both drivers were able to continue, but Halopka was sent to the back.

One more lap was completed and then there was another caution when Joe Chaplin spun, collecting B Jay Huse in the process. Both cars then retired to the pits.

When racing resumed, Leer once again was off to the lead, this time with Crapser in hot pursuit. As Leer and Crapser ran one and two, Anderson and Nick Koehler had a spirited battle for third for six laps.

With the laps winding down, Grant Southworth began picking off cars one at a time, moving up to fourth.

By race end, Bruce, Wisconsin’s, Leer, had won his fifth Eagle Valley Speedway feature, completed a swipe and qualified for the ROC in his Jiffy Biffy-sponsored car.

The Super Stocks were up next with Brad Kisling and Mark Stender showing the way. Stender was off to a quick and commanding lead with Kisling running a strong second.

Stender and Kisling maintained the top spots for the first eight laps and then the car of Tommy Richards slowed and came to a stop in the back stretch bringing out the caution.

Once the cars were realigned and racing resumed, Stender once again took the lead, but this time it was Shane Kisling who stole the second spot as Eric Olson and Wayne Dean had a heated fight for third.

By mid race, Shane Kisling seemed to have found a little extra power and moved from second, shooting to the lead.

Two cautions caused the field to adjust and Kisling survived two restarts with Olson and Dean once again embroiled in a fight for second as Brad Kisling and Mark Stender fought it out for third.

By race end, Shane Kisling of Sarona, WI, had taken his eighth win at Eagle Valley Speedway in his Moberg Electric-sponsored car.

Dan Hesch and Kevin Adams lined up side-by-side for the start of the Modified feature, which got off to a rocky start when Hesch’s car slowed suddenly coming out of turn two, causing an early caution, resulting in Hesch’s car being pushed into the infield.

When racing resumed, Adams was “off to the races” putting distance between himself and the other competitors quickly.

Jesse Glenz did his best to close the gap between himself and Adams as the two cars ran virtually the same speed for most of the race. But, running nearly the same speed was not going to be good enough.

Adams survived two mid-race cautions and restarts and for a time Mark Gerth ran second with Glenz running third.

As Adams continued to lead, Glenz and Gerth swapped places for second, with Glenz winning that fight. Meanwhile, Adam Hensel and Mike Anderson swapped spots for third with Hensel eventually winning that one.

In the end, Rice Lake, Wisconsin’s, Adams, had captured a ROC qualifying spot and had won his fifth feature at Eagle Valley Speedway for the year in his Todd’s Crankshaft Grinding-sponsored car.

Mike Knudtson and Cody Kummer were in charge of the starting spots as the Street Stocks took to the track for their feature.

Kummer was the early leader, with Knudtson running a strong second, and Jay Kesan and Nick Wojcik had an excellent race for third.

A caution during lap six for a spinning Sam Frankhauser realigned the field and Kummer once again grabbed the lead, this time with Kesan hot on his tail.

With two laps to go, Kummer still led, but Wojcik moved into the second spot as Kesan dropped to third and Adam Soltis secured the fourth spot, after battling Jason Lang for much of the latter part of the race.

As the checkered flew, Kummer of Medford, WI, had won his second feature in as many weeks at Eagle Valley Speedway and had qualified for the ROC in his Vince’s Speed Shop-sponsored car.

George Richards was looking for yet another Eagle Valley Speedway win as he and Dan Fisher led the Eagle Valley Pure Stocks to the green for the start of their feature.

Richards was off to a quick lead and took command early as he pulled away from the competition with Fisher running second, as Dalton Hazelton and Jason Havel dueled it out for third.

A caution for a multi-car wreck after lap four saw Clay Potaczek and Dustin Doughty parking their cars for the night and Richards once again was off to a lead.

As Richards ran first, Havel moved into second and showed signs of looking for the lead. Hazelton continued to run third, as Fisher dropped to fourth and Brandon Lofgren moved up to fifth.

At the midpoint of the race, Havel passed Richards whose car was missing, coming out of the turns. From that point on, Havel continued to lead as Richards hung on for second.

As the race ended, Havel of Rice Lake, WI, had won his first feature at Eagle Valley Speedway.

The final feature of the night was the Mod 600s with Greg Wohletz and Brett LaDuke on the front row.

Wohletz was the early leader, with Joe Provinzino moving up from his fifth place starting spot to grab second and John Griffin came from seventh to run third.

With four laps in, Provinzino’s car suddenly slowed, and although not related, Bob Cizewski’s car spun between turns one and two. Cizewski was able to continue from the back of the pack, but Provinzino’s night was done.

When racing resumed, Wohletz again took the lead with Griffin running second, as Bill Baures ran third and Curt Luhmann ran fourth.

With three to go, Griffin passed Wohletz for the lead and the eventual win for the Caledonia, MN, resident.

Next weeks races will be presented by JP Mechanical with all divisions once again in action including the four cylinders and exculding the Mod 600s.

The first feature race of the night began with Andy Grymala and Eric Olson on the front row for the start of the WISSOTA/Amsoil Super Stock show. Grymala was quick off the line to take the lead and led the first three laps, as Olson and Shane Kisling battled for second.
With three laps in the books, Kisling did what he had threatened to do during the previous two laps and made the pass for the lead with Grymala and Olson left to fight it out for second and Mark Stender and Tommy Richards vying for third.
Kisling, of Sarona, WI was able to survive several restarts for two separate cautions about midway through the race to go on to take his 12th win of the 2011 season in his Lakeview Dental-sponsored car.
The WISSOTA/Amsoil Midwest Modifieds were up next with Nick Koehler and Josh Smith leading the way.
Smith showed good strength early, taking the lead by the end of lap one, with Koehler and Cory Crapser in hot pursuit.
By the end of lap two, Crapser had made a successful pass for second, as Koehler settled in for third and Matt Leer hounding him for the third spot.
Just before the halfway point of the feature, with Smith still leading, Crapser ran second, Leer third, Koehler fourth, and Grant Southworth followed in fifth.
With four laps to go in the 15-lap feature, Crapser made his move for the lead, dropping Smith to second as Leer ran third.
In the end, it was Chippewa Falls, Wisconsin’s, Cory Crapser, taking his 12th feature win of the year in his GRP Motorsports-sponsored car. This win is something special, when you consider the fact that the previous night Crapser loaded up a basket of a barrel-rolled car at Rice Lake Speedway.
Cody Kummer and Jay Kesan lined up side-by-side for the start of the WISSOTA/Amsoil Street Stock feature, which was next on the race card.
Kesan was the early leader as he captured the lead spot by the end of lap one. Kesan had a dancing partner, though, as Kummer glued the front end of his car to the rear bumper of Kesan’s car.
Kesan and Kummer ran one and two for 13 laps with Kesan in control. Kummer was tight on his bumper the whole time, as Jason Lang ran a few car lengths back and Adam Soltis was close behind.
With the white flag ready to be unfurled, Kummer decided he was sick of being second and made the move to pass for the lead.
As the white flag flew, Medford, Wisconsin’s Kummer made the pass, sending Kesan to second. Kummer went on to get his first win of the year at Eagle Valley Speedway in his Vince’s Speed Shop-sponsored car.
The Eagle Valley Pure Stocks were up next with Scott Schoettle and Dustin Doughty on the front row.
It was neither of the front row competitors that would take the early lead as track points leader, George Richards, took command early from his third-place starting spot.
Richards was soon joined by Jason Havel, coming from fifth, to make the only serious challenge for the lead for the night.
Despite two successive cautions during laps seven and eight, the Mondovi, WI native, Richards was able to hold off all comers to take yet another Pure Stock win in his Outlaw Chassis-sponsored car.
Up next—the main event with Adam Hensel on the pin and Mike Prochnow at his side for the start of the Dart Challenge Series Late Model feature.
The feature began with a bad start when Hensel was slow getting off the line. After the cars were regrouped, the second start was successful with Hensel shooting to the lead as Prochnow wrestled Jake Redetzke for second.
By the end of lap four, Hensel was still in the lead and Redetzke had moved up to second, followed by Jimmy Mars, Prochnow, and Joel Cryderman.
A caution during lap five for a spinning Jake Hartung, reset the field. When racing resumed Hensel once again grabbed the point, this time followed by Mars, Redetzke, Prochnow, and Cryderman.
As the race neared the halfway mark, Jim Rychtik’s car came to rest against the front stretch wall. Rychtik was fine, but he retired his car to the pits and the race resumed with Hensel once again showing the way, followed closely by Mars.
Moving on a few laps to lap 24, Hensel was on a mission as he stretched his lead to almost a full turn with Mars, Redetzke, Cryderman and now, Steve Laursen, giving chase.
With ten laps to go in the 40-lap feature and lapped traffic looking like it was going to be a factor, things looked like they were once again going to get really interesting as Redetzke was eyeing up Mars for a shot at the second spot.
We didn’t know it at the time, but Mars was having fuel pump issues and would leave the race with three laps to go, sending Redetzke to second as Hensel continued to lead.
By race end, Hensel had picked up his second Challenge Series win making the folks in Barron, Wisconsin, once again proud of the “Barron Bullet”.
As of July 3, 2011, Redetzke continues to lead in the Dart Challenge Series points battle, followed by Hensel, Eric Breeschoten, John Kaanta, and Joel Cryderman.
Racing resumes on Saturday, July 9, when Eagle Valley Speedway presents an Enduro race. Sunday night, July 10, regular racing resumes with River Country Coop Night featuring WISSOTA Modified, Super Stocks, Midwest Modifieds, Street Stocks, Eagle Valley Pure Stocks, and the Mod 600s.

Rookie Gerth Shows The Mods How It’s Done at Eagle Valley

Eagle Valley Speedway, June 27, 2011

By Gene Harmelink

On a rare, near perfect night, JP Mechanical presented the races and the Eagle Valley Speedway faithful were treated to a great night of racing. In this writer’s opinion, it was the best overall racing of the year in all divisions with great battles occurring in all features.

Rookie, Mark Gerth, took top honors for the night in his WISSOTA/Amsoil racing series Modified as he came from mid-pack with three laps to go in the Modified feature to get his second win of the season.

Shane Kisling wasn’t quite as patient, as he waited until mid-race to grab the lead and eventually take his ninth feature win of the year in his WISSOTA/Amsoil Super Stock.

In WISSOTA/Amsoil Midwest Modified action, Matt Leer was successful in making the pass for the lead and the win with five laps to go to get his tenth win of the season.

After spinning out in his heat race, it was an excellent end to the night when rookie, Nick Wojcik, got his second feature win of the year in his WISSOTA/Amsoil Street Stock.

In the Eagle Valley divisions, George Richards picked up win number seven in his Pure Stock, while Eric Schultz garnered win number seven in his Hornet.

The Eagle Valley Hornets ran their feature prior to intermission with Eric Schultz and Jay Welk on the front row. Welk, knowing full well that the points leader was right beside him, shot to an early lead and never looked back, leading the whole way, until? Well, until the last lap when Schultz took a new approach as the two battled door to door.

With Welk in the lead, Shultz drove a new line and squeezed out a win as the checkered flag flew, picking up his seventh win of the year. Rounding out the top five were: Welk, Mark Ryskoski, Scott Westaby and Dustin LaBlonde.

After some track grooming and the intermission, the WISSOTA Midwest Modifieds took to the track with Josh Smith and Nick Koehler on point. Koehler say his chance early and took the early lead, leading the first nine laps of the feature.

It was during what should have been the completion of lap ten that Koehler and Matt Leer tangled as they approached the flag stand as Leer was in the process of passing Koehler. The result was a caution and the result of the tangle was that Koehler retired to the pits and Leer moved to the top spot.

Once Leer was in the leadership spot, it was going to be a tough job for anyone else to secure it, but Cory Crapser, Grant Southworth (on the comeback after a broken back), and Smith did their best to pass and then just keep up with Leer.

In the end, it was Leer getting his tenth win of the season in his Fisk Trucking sponsored car. Crapser, Smtih, Southworth, and B Jay Huse made up the rest of the top five.

Tommy Richards and Lucas Plank making his second trip to Eagle Valley this season led the WISSOTA Super Stocks to the line for the start of their feature.

Plank was on the move early, grabbing the lead with Richards and Tony Falkner in hot pursuit. Falkner exited to the pits early, leaving Richards and now Shane Kisling to do battle for the second spot.

Kisling had started eighth, but was on the move, however, Richards was able to hold him off as Eric Olson also got into the mix for the second spot.

As Plank, Richards and Kisling were having a heated battle for the top spot, you could have thrown the preverbal blanket over them, Olson was biding his time for a chance along with Darrel Hazelton.

A caution occurred as lap ten was beginning for derbis—no, this is not Nascar, there was parts and pieces on the track. Once racing resumed, Kisling was the fastest on the restart and the rest, my friends, is history.

Kisling went on to take his ninth win of the year in his Moberg Excavating sponsored car followed by Plank, Richards, Olson, and Wayne Dean.

Mike Anderson and Dan Hesch had the starting spots for the WISSOTA Modified feature and Hesch was quickest off the line to take the early lead with Anderson putting on the pressure followed by Jay Richardson, Kevin Adams and Kent Baxter.

Everything was going Hesch’s way for the first eleven laps and then a caution occurred when Bryan Nayes came to a stop as he came out of turn one. At the same time, Anderson pulled off with a shredded right rear tire.

When racing resumed, Hesch again was on his way as Adams, Gerth and Richardson battled for second. As Hesch stretched his lead and things were going his way, a caution occurred during lap seventeen when Jason Swan’s car spun coming out of turn one.

And then it happened. Suddenly, seemingly out of nowhere, Gerth shot to the lead and with three laps to go kicked in the after burners leaving everyone else in pursuit.

With Gerth in the lead, Hesch and Adams fought it out for second as Steve Hallquist moved into fourth with Richardson hanging on for fifth.

At race end, Gerth had picked up his second win in his rookie year in his Mars Race Cars sponsored Modified. Hesch, Adams, Hallquist and Richardson completed the top five in this exciting feature.

In WISSOTA Street Stock action, Cody Kummer and Mike Knudtson led field to the green for the start of their feature with Kummer making a quick move to take the lead early.

With Kummer in the lead, Adam Soltis ran second as Danny Richards and the Wojcik brothers, Doug and Nick worked for the third spot.

Five laps into the feature, which ran without caution, Kummer began to pull away from the field and stretch his lead.

With eight laps in, Kummer was still in the lead, but Nick Wojcik was on the move and closing. Meanwhile, Richards, Doug Wojcik and Soltis were doing their best to stay in the fray for the top spot.

Nick Wojcik was on a rail and by the end of lap nine had made the pass on Kummer. Wojcik had it hooked up and pulled away from the rest to take his second win of his short Street Stock career in his Intercomp sponsored car. Kummer, Richards, Soltis and Doug Wojcik completed the top five.

Scott Schoettle and Dalton Hazelton were first to take the green in the Eagle Valley Pure Stock feature, but Clay Potaczek, coming from fifth was the early leader.

An early caution as lap two was being completed saw last week’s feature winner, Dustin Doughty, flip his car in turn four. Doughty was walked away and the car was removed from the track.

When racing resumed, Potaczek once again took the lead, but was challenged early by George Richards.

Richards was on the move and by the end of lap three had grabbed the lead. Potaczek fell to second as Schoettle, Bill Skoug, and Hazelton gave chase.

All the chasing in the world wasn’t, apparently, going to make any difference as Richards drove away from the field to take his seventh win of the year in his Ketchum Farms sponsored car. Potaczek, Schoettle, Skoug, and Hazelton rounded out the top five.

Racing resumes on Sunday, July 3, when the Dart Challenge Series for WISSOTA Late Models will be in action along with the WISSOTA Super Stocks, WISSOTA Midwest Modifieds, WISSOTA Street Stocks and Eagle Valley Pure Stocks.
